Clod Ensemble Debut New Show ON THE HIGH ROAD at Latitude

This year's Latitude Festival will feature a specially prepared festival edition of Clod Ensemble's upcoming show On the High Road with a characteristically interdisciplinary company of dancers, actors, and singers.
On the High Road summons themes of migration, difference and intolerance to create a feverish end-of-epoch atmosphere. First-timers and seasoned Clod Ensemble performers from the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, China and the Philippines come together to portray individuals rich and poor, old and young, pilgrim and party-goer. All seek refuge under the same roof, and all dream, pray, dance and fight, waiting for the dawn to come.
A distinctive, stark monochromatic set holds together this disparate group of people who are caught in a storm on the high road, somewhere in the middle of nowhere. With music from Paul Clark featuring sampled and manipulated weather sounds, fugal piano textures, and traditional Irish singing from Thomas McCarthy. On the High Road's score invokes the phantasmic and drives the company's spectacular and intricate movement.
Artistic Director Suzy Willson said "This is our first performance at Latitude, we are really thrilled to be presenting a special edit of On the High Road - created to respond to the unique environment of this dynamic arts festival."
Clod Ensemble is one of the UK's most prominent interdisciplinary performance companies. For over two decades, director Suzy Willson and composer Paul Clark have developed a highly original performance language, creating provocative, finely crafted work, ambitious in scale and concept. The company works at the intersection of different forms and disciplines - at the point where they meet, transform and challenge each other to become something new. Clod Ensemble collaborate with dancers, actors, musicians, medics, architects and orchestras. The company has been presented in London, across the UK and internationally in theatres, dance houses, galleries and public spaces including Sadler's Wells, Tate Modern, The Lowry Salford, Wales Millennium Centre, Serralves Museum Porto and Public Theater New York.
Suzy Willson is a leading performance director and choreographer and has built a reputation for creating award-winning, multidisciplinary performances in unusual spaces throughout UK and internationally. Suzy has directed all Clod Ensemble productions to date and repeatedly brought performance to new audiences, though research and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Paul Clark is a leading British theatre composer and has written ambitious, critically acclaimed scores for all of Clod Ensemble's productions. His music has been performed at international venues and festivals such as Lincoln Center New York, Vienna Burgtheater, Avignon Festival, Berlin Schaubühne and Amsterdam Stadsschouwburg, through collaborations with Gare St Lazare Ireland and director Katie Mitchell.
