RAVE GENERATION Set for Edinburgh Fringe, Now thru Aug 26
Rave Generation has been nominated for the National Students Drama Award for new writing. It is a black comedy based around 4 fictional characters who inadvertently take Class A drugs. They experience a unifying and liberating journey and are united in an unlikely setting, a primary school classroom.
James is a modest dance teacher of 4 to 6 year olds. He holds a dance class that is so revolutionary, the children's parents are left questioning the motives behind the class. A meeting is called and James May lose his job. During the meeting James takes drastic actions to save his livelihood.
Rave Generation is a three act play. Only the first act will be shown at Edinburgh Fringe. The play aims to have the audience question whether recreational drugs appeal to them (illegal or not). The second act is based on a true story where different generations explain the negative repercussions of recreational drug taking within the same setting. The third act will be a surprise!
Apteam is a brand new Production Company created by Kai Spellman (20 years) and Sophie Béphage (18 years). Together with three other young talented actors they are taking this black comedy to Edinburgh Fringe to tackle a controversial but growing culture of recreational drug taking on the rave scene today. Kai writer/director has been to state and public schools where drug information was only raised briefly and in a negative and inflammatory way. This left him and his peers feeling more confused and intrigued.
When Kai entered the rave scene he quickly observed that MDMA when taken responsibly, for some, can have a liberating, powerful release and a possible place in society. However, if taken irresponsibly the negative and headline stories that reach the papers help to keep the drug illegal and taboo. This lead to the creation of Rave Generation.
This play aims to question your own personal values and morals with regard to taking MDMA (Class A drug) and ultimately is it socially acceptable?
The show will run at St Augustine's, 41 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, EH1 1EL. (Edinburgh Fringe Venue 152), today, 20th-26th August 2013. Time: 16:50. Tickets: £7.50; Concession: £5.50.
