Photo Flash: First Look at CHINA GOES POP at Edinburgh Fringe
Direct from China comes the European premiere of this stunning new multi-spectacle show featuring martial arts, physical comedy and dazzling acrobatics performed by Cirque du Soleil alumni, and created and produced by award-winning Broadway and circus artists.
CHINA GOES POP! is produced by China Arts and Entertainment Group and executive produced by Marc Routh and Simone Genatt of Broadway Asia International, who have previously brought fabulous sold-out productions including Cookin' and Siddhartha The Musical to the Edinburgh Fringe.
This eye-popping show tells a classic love-story about the relationship between an artist and his muse using acrobatics, martial arts, physical comedy and video projection to create a thrilling theatrical carnival that fuses traditional Chinese art forms together with Broadway story-telling and a background of contemporary pop songs. Featuring direction from Marvel Universe Live! director Shanda Sawyer, choreography from Patti Colombo (Cathy Rigby's Peter Pan) and costume designs by Tony Award winning costume designer Paloma Young (Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, Peter and the Starcatcher).
Shandong Acrobatic Troupe is a multi-award-winning acrobatic troupe based in Jinan, China. Led by Director Yao, they have performed in Cirque du Soleil, Ringling Brothers and Big Apple Circus across over 30 countries including the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Korea and Singapore.
Director and choreographer Shanda Sawyer's past works include creating and directing Marvel Universe Live! which debuted in 2014 and went on to tour globally including to London's 02 Arena, Circus of Dreams, Zing Zang Zoom and Ringling Bros & Barnum and Bailey Circus. Patti Colomborecently choreographed Can-Can (Paper Mill Playhouse, New Jersey), Peter Pan (Broadway) and Bellobaration for Ringling Brothers. The design team also includes Andy Walmsley, Scenic Designer (American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance and Who Wants to be a Millionaire) and Brighter Than the Sun, Video Designer (Riverdance).
