Marin Theatre to Present 'Brel;' More Productions Planned

By:

Dan Whitten, recent Tony Award-winning producer of Jay Johnson: The Two & Only!, has announced that the acclaimed 2006/2007 Off-Broadway revival of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris will fill the final slot of Marin Theatre Company's 2007/08 season.  The critically-acclaimed show which opened in March 2006 at New York's Zipper Theatre, ran for a year and received Outstanding Musical Revival nominations from the Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Awards.

The Marin Theatre Company run will be produced in association with Whitten's TIGER Theatricals. Gordon Greenberg, who directed the Off-Broadway production, is slated to direct.   The musical will play in MTC's 231-seat Boyer Theatre from May 22, 2008 to June 15, 2008 with a possible extension into August. Opening Night is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27th at 8p.m.

Whitten just returned from the West Coast where he met with Jasson Minadakis (Artistic Director) and Gabriella Calicchio (Managing Director) at the Marin Theatre Company (located in Mill Valley, CA – just north of the Golden Gate Bridge) to discuss moving the show directly to a commercial house following the 2008 spring run. "I am thrilled that we have found a home for the first production of "Brel" following its successful New York run.  I know that there are many fans of Jacques Brel'smusic living in the Bay Area, so I am really pleased to be able to share "Brel" with them."

In addition, Whitten is in discussion with Avi Hoffman's New Vista Theatre Company in South Florida about Brel productions this winter in Ft. Lauderdale and Boca Raton.  Also under consideration are productions in Boston, Atlanta, Tel Aviv, Chicago, Montreal, London and South Korea.
