An Iliad is Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare's adaptation of Homer's Ancient Greek saga, directed by Damien Ryan and starring David Wenham as the Poet, a man who has spent millennia walking through battlefields spreading the story of the Trojan War. The production transforms the ancient saga of heroes, gods and battles into an urgent and personal exploration of difference, disagreement and the devastation of war. David Wenham is accompanied on stage by double bassist and composer Helen Svoboda. The production has garnered five-star reviews and sold-out performances across its season at Sydney Theatre Company.
