2nd Story Presents AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, Previews 3/2/2012

By:

2nd Story Theatre Artistic Director Ed Shea announced that due to an administrative snafu on the part of the publishing company, the rights to produce John Logan's Red have been rescinded.
But in a true case of ‘when one door closes, another opens' Shea says, "it couldn't have worked out better had it been planned. Not only did 2nd Story land on its feet, we've landed one step up because we've been granted the rights to August: Osage County, one of the hottest properties to come along in decades."

The Westons of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, are a dysfunctional family in the midst of a major meltdown. The father has vanished, the foul-mouthed mother is popping pills, and the three sisters are harboring shady little secrets. When the clan unexpectedly reunites after Dad
disappears, the family homestead explodes in a maelstrom of repressed truths and unsettling secrets. August: Osage County is The Great New American Play, a tragicomedy that unflinchingly-and uproariously-exposes the dark side of the Midwestern American family.
2nd Story's
production will be directed by Ed Shea who says, "We feel truly privileged to have the opportunity to introduce Rhode Island audiences to this modern American masterpiece."

"In Tracy Letts' ferociously entertaining play, dysfunctional family drama comes roaring into the twenty-first century with eyes blazing, nostrils flaring and fangs bared, laced with corrosive humor so darkly delicious and ghastly that you're squirming in your seat even as you're doubled-over laughing."-Variety. "This is a play that will leave us laughing and wondering, shuddering and smiling, long after the house lights come back on." -NY Newsday. "It is, flat-out, no asterisks and without qualifications, the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years." - New York Times
