One of the most belovedcharacters of American literature comes to life in an imaginative new adaptation of Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer at Kansas City Repertory Theatre. Twain's enduring paean to the joys of childhood is adapted for the stage by Laura Eason and directed by Jeremy B. Cohen. The production runs January 20-February 12 at Spencer Theatre in the James C. Olson Performing Arts Center on the UMKC campus.

The Shakespeare Theatre Company continues celebrating its 25th Anniversary Season with the second installment of the Bard's Broadway series with the Tony Award winning musical Two Gentlemen of Verona (a rock opera) performing January 27-29, 2012 at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW). Galt MacDermot, John Guare and Mel Shapiro come together to create the music, lyrics and book that add a spicy, funky twist to Shakespeare's work of the same name.

As part of the 25th Anniversary, Shakespeare Theatre Company celebrates Shakespeare through song and verse. A musical interpretation of the Bard's work will be performed in concert-style staging as additions to the regular season. The limited engagement will be presented with live music and featuring, Tony nominee Robin de Jesus and Javier Muñoz, according to de Jesus' Facebook page. Lantern Theater Company has announced that it will honor Ceal Phelan and Gayle Smith with the 2012 Luminary Award at its Annual Benefit on Friday, February 24, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. An Evening in Verona will be held at the elegant Down Town Club at 6th & Chestnut Streets in Center City, and will include entertainment, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, dinner and dessert, plus live music from the Alex Hiele Trio and a Silent Auction featuring exclusive vacations, fine dining, entertainment, adventures, sports, and other unique items.

The Sheboygan Theater Company will hold open auditions for CHEESEHEADS, THE MUSICAL on Wednesday, January 25 at 6:30 pm at Horace Mann Middle School (Leslie W. Johnson Theatre, 2820 Union Ave, Sheboygan). Callbacks will be on Thursday, January 26 at 6:30 pm. The Director is Catie O'Donnell from Verona, WI and the Music Director is Sandra Kasten.
