DIE, MOMMIE, DIE! is a campy noir classic that follows the devious actions of fading Hollywood star Angela Arden, played to the hilt by Drew Droege in drag. Think of Gloria Swanson in "Sunset Boulevard" and throw in a bit of Joan Crawford's attitude and you get the idea of who Angela Arden is. And let me tell you, Droege is a wonder running across the stage in high heels, always dressed to feminine perfection by costumer Allison Dillard. But Angela is trapped in an unhappy marriage and plots to kill her husband, Hollywood producer Sol Sussman (Pat Towne) in order to be with her young, and very well-hung lover Tony Parker (Andrew Carter). His endowment is a running gag throughout the play, aimed at almost every other character at some point, a bit too suggestive and sexy for young audiences.
Pandora Productions ends her family themed Season with Die! Mommie Die!, Charles Busch's outrageous, campy, impossible comedy. Poisoned suppositories are just the beginning of this thriller comedy with multiple suspects, with many motives and a twist we never see coming.

Drag artist Charles Busch's outrageously funny melodrama about an aging Hollywood star and her twisted family relationships will bring howls of laughter to the dead of winter. This off-Broadway hit by the author of Psycho Beach Party, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom and last year's smash hit The Divine Sister stars Doug Joseph as the irresistibly evil has-been heroine Angela. Cast also includes the struggling director Sol Sussman (Ralph E. Scott), his daughter (Erin Mellon), her brither Lance (Johnny Robison), former actor/country club tennis pro/humidor repairman/gigolo Tony Parker (Nick Lingofski), and keeping the house in order is Bootsie Carp (Josie Merkle)
Actor Doug Joseph has gone from playing Cecil B. DeMille in the Short North Stage's production of SUNSET BOULEVARD to playing the very Norma Desmond-esque Angela Arden in the theatre's production of DIE, MOMMIE DIE!

According to Artistic Director Ed Shea, the two most frequently produced playwrights at 2nd Story Theatre are Moliere and Charles Busch: apparently these people like to laugh. The current offering from Busch is the outrageous DIE, MOMMIE, DIE, which is running in rep with I HATE HAMLET thru August 28. Charles Busch is shameless enough to write plays in which he can play the leading lady. He does not hold back-this is campy, frankly sexual, insightful, absurd and hilarious.
