NPR Music's "All Songs Considered" premieres the new track "Provider" from Midlake's upcoming album Antiphon. NPR Music says "Each of Midlake's full-lengths has had it's own character, though they share an affinity for the '70s, when progressive rock and bold musical themes ruled. This album feels dreamy in a psychedelic way. But, like music from the classic band The Moody Blues, even the spacier moments still hold on to melody and structure". Denton, Texas' favorite sons will celebrate their first ATO Records release November 5. View full NPR Music post [HERE] and via embeddable Soundcloud [HERE]. The band will kick off new dates on November 5 at Brighton Music Hall in Boston, MA and will make stops in major markets including New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Chapel Hill, Atlanta and Nashville winding up with two dates opening for Pearl Jam in Dallas and Oklahoma City.

Lucky Stiff is an early project by composer Stephen Flaherty and lyricist/librettist Lynn Ahrens, who went on to create Once on This Island, Ragtime, and the underrated A Man of No Importance. It's an odd mating of one of those twee English comedies that always seemed to feature Alec Guinness and a dorky 1980s comedy, specifically Weekend at Bernie's.

Remember those cheesy After School Specials that were on TV when we were young? No? Just me? (Man, I'm old!) Anyway, for those not old enough to remember, they were hour-long specials back in the 80's and 90's that dealt with teen issues such as pregnancy, abuse, and even homosexuality (Ah, "The Truth About Alex"). Well, the current production from Seattle Public Theater, "Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them", has a similar feel to it. And while not as cheesy as those specials of my youth I did find a few moments where I felt like I was 14 again being taught a lesson by the fine folks at ABC. But cheesy or not, the production manages to tell the story with heart and depth.
