JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH Set for Hangar Theatre's KIDDSTUFF Series, Now thru 8/3

Complementing the 2013 Mainstage season, Hangar Theatre presents a magical series of live theatre for young audiences based on favorite children's stories. Jetset Getset Opens for Casey James at Glier's Goettafest Tonight

Jetset Getset is getting set for Goettafest. The Indiana-based, teenage country band has been tapped to open for 19 Recordings/BNA Records artist Casey James at the 13th annual Glier's Goettafest in Newport, Kentucky tonight, August 1. The concert will mark James' second appearance in the Greater Cincinnati area.

James Gaffigan Leads Academy Festival Orchestra's Summer Finale, 8/10

James Gaffigan, whose dazzling performances on many of the world's marquee stages have prompted critics to declare him the most talented young American conductor working today, will lead the Academy Festival Orchestra in its final concert of the 2013 Summer Festival season at Santa Barbara's historic Granada Theatre on Saturday, August 10. Featuring a program of grand Romantic works punctuating this year's Festival theme of “Magic, Legend, and Ritual” – including the overture to Wagner's Rienzi, songs from Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn, and Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique – the concert will begin at 8 pm. Tickets start at $15.

James Godwin to Bring LUNATIC CUNNING to National Puppetry Festival, 8/8-9

A semi-autobiographical mockumentary from puppetry and performance art pioneer, James Godwin, "Lunatic Cunning" mixes experiences from Godwin's own life with esoteric concepts and strikingly theatrical visuals. As a storyteller, Godwin creates a thread of narrative that bridges the gap between the mundane and the mythical. The show is a humorous examination of the occult roots of puppetry and performance itself.

Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre, in residence at CCBC Essex, concludes its 41st season with a Season End Gala Celebration to be held 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 11 in the College Community Center (formerly the B Building) Theatre at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd., Rosedale.

Lawrence James' New Novel on Serial Killers, NIGHTBIRDS is Released

Box Office for Nearly Sold Out BETRAYAL Starring Daniel Craig & Rachel Weisz to Open Early for One Week, July 29 - August 4

Due to overwhelming demand, the Barrymore Theatre box office (243 West 47th Street) will open early, for one week only, on Monday, July 29 at 10:00 am through Sunday, August 4 at 6:00 pm, for tickets to Harold Pinter's BETRAYAL, starring Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, and Rafe Spall, and directed by ten-time Tony Award-winner Mike Nichols. The box office will be open July 29-August 3 from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, and August 4 from Noon to 6:00 pm. After August 4, the box office at the Barrymore will reopen on Tuesday, September 3.

BWW Reviews: OUR TOWN at the Theater At Monmouth; Wilder's Masterpiece Comes To Life

When Thornton Wilder premiered his new play OUR TOWN in 1938, I would wager that more than one person left the theatre asking why anyone would want to watch the lives of "ordinary" people on stage. Fast forward to present day where millions of people the world over tune in to reality tv shows, following the lives of "ordinary" people. The difference is, that there is nothing "brilliant" about the lives of the so-called stars of reality TV. However, Wilder's OUR TOWN is light years ahead of it's time, and the talented cast of his well-known play bring out it's brilliance at the Theater At Monmouth.

ABSTRACTOMETRY Group Exhibition to Open at Frist Center's Conte Community Arts Gallery, 8/30

Works by eight Nashville-area artists-Alex Blau, Patrick DeGuira, Warren Greene, Ron Lambert, James Perrin, Christopher Roberson, Terry Thacker and Amelia Winger-Bearskin-will be on display in the Frist Center's Conte Community Arts Gallery from Aug. 30, 2013 through Feb. 2, 2014. The exhibition, entitled Abstractometry, features works that employ geometric patterns, typography or other graphic codes to express cultural factors that shape our lives.
