James Conlon Cancels August Performances Due to Surgery

James Conlon, LA Opera's Richard Seaver Music Director, has cancelled two August engagements in order to undergo surgery to remove an inflamed portion of his colon as a result of diverticulitis. The surgery will take place in New York, and Mr. Conlon's prognosis is for a full recovery following three to four weeks of recuperation after surgery, according to Mr. Conlon's public relations representative, Constance Shuman at Shuman Associates, Inc.

Concept Art House Re-Acquired by Original Founders

James Zhang, CEO and Founder of Concept Art House, today announced the successful reacquisition of the company from UK-based Zattikka PLC. The announcement comes after Zattikka released news of its pending insolvency. Concept Art House now resumes work as an independent art services provider based in San Francisco, CA and Shanghai, China.

James Godwin Brings LUNATIC CUNNING to National Puppetry Festival Tonight

A semi-autobiographical mockumentary from puppetry and performance art pioneer, James Godwin, 'Lunatic Cunning' mixes experiences from Godwin's own life with esoteric concepts and strikingly theatrical visuals. As a storyteller, Godwin creates a thread of narrative that bridges the gap between the mundane and the mythical. The show is a humorous examination of the occult roots of puppetry and performance itself.

Joseph Beck's A HOMECOMING to Premiere at FringeNYC, 8/10-23

Alzheimer's casts its long shadow over an already broken family in Joe Beck's poignant drama A Homecoming. Edited by Tom Philbin, directed by Troy Miller and presented by Adam Weinstock and Creative Concept Productions as part of the 17th Annual New York International Fringe Festival (Fringe NYC), A Homecoming will be performed at the Players Theater, located at 115 MacDougal Street (between W 3rd St. & BleeckerSt. (Fringe Venue #17). The production will run Saturday, August 10 at 4:45pm; Friday, August 16 at 2pm; Tuesday, August 20 at 9pm; Thursday, August 22 at 1pm; and Friday, August 23 at 7pm.

BWW Reviews: MOMA's Fun, For a Friday Night and More

MOMA is hot, blame it on Global Warming. I can't remember anytime I enjoyed such a large range of works on different floors at MOMA. Claes Oldenburg's old storefront packed up a little differently this week compared to what must have happened after its four year run in the early 1960's. You may have missed this one that has sat too long on my desktop. As recompense go to MOMA for free one Friday night from 4-8pm, tell them Barry sent you. Often we only read about exhibitions, who can schlep to so much?

Immensely talented pianist Helene Grimaud comes to the Hollywood Bowl to perform Brahms' monumental First Piano Concerto with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, tonight and Thursday, August 6 and 8, at 8 pm. Leading the LA Phil on those evenings is rising-star American conductor, James Gaffigan, in his Hollywoood Bowl debut. Beethoven's Coriolan Overture and Strauss' Don Juan which round out the evening of Romantic music.

New Line Cinema's THE CONJURING Passes $100 Million at the US Box Office

One of the most talked about hits of the summer, New Line Cinema's 'The Conjuring' has surpassed $100 million at the domestic box office on only its third weekend in theatres, it was announced today by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. The film crossed the $100 million mark on Saturday, August 3, and has earned an estimated $108.6 million domestically to date, and still climbing.
