Lyric Stage, Dallas County's only locally produced professional musical theater company, presents THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, October 29 - November 7 in the Irving Arts Center's Carpenter Performance Hall. Ben Harper steals ten thousand dollars. Just before being sent to prison he hides the money in his daughter's doll, setting in motion a thrilling, frightening, and heartfelt story. For sharing Ben's prison cell is Harry Powell, aka The Preacher, who will do anything to get his hands on the stolen money. Anything, including murder. In 1954, Davis Grubb's southern gothic tale THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER hit the New York Times Best Seller list and stayed there for several weeks. The 1955 film version directed by Charles Laughton (his only time behind the camera) and starring Robert Mitchum and Shelley Winters has gone on to be named one of the 100 greatest films of the 20th Century. Now Stephen Cole (book & lyrics) and Claibe Richardson (music) have adapted Grubb's novel into a musical thriller. Lyric Stage is proud to present this great new American musical, winner of the prestigious Edward Kleban Award, with a full orchestra. Davis Gaines will star as The Preacher (Mitchum) opposite Theatre World Award winner Julie Johnson as Willa Harper (Winters). Cheryl Denson will direct Lyric Stage's production with music direction by Scott A. Eckert. Scenic Design is by Scott Osborne, Lighting Design is by Julie Simmons Moroney and Costume Design is by Drenda Lewis.

Sonnet Repertory Theatre announced their Ninth Annual BENEFIT & CABARET HONORING JACK O'BRIEN to be held Monday, November 8th at Joe's Pub, to be hosted by Jerry Mitchell with Musical Direction by Dan Lipton and featuring performances by John Behlmann, Kerry Butler, Michael Cerveris, Victor Garber, Ethan Hawke, Carly Jibson, Andrew Lippa, Duncan Sheik, Joe Allen Players.

Beginning on October 27, New York City Opera will present Parallel Perceptions, a contemporary art exhibition that features the works of six visual artists that have been paired with productions from City Opera's 2010-11 season, including Leonard Bernstein's A Quiet Place; Richard Strauss's Intermezzo; Donizetti's The Elixir of Love; three one-act operas (Monodramas) by John Zorn, Arnold Schoenberg, and Morton Feldman; and Stephen Schwartz's Séance on a Wet Afternoon. Curated by accomplished artist and photo editor Naomi Ben-Shahar, the exhibition will take place during the fall and spring seasons and includes a series of additional paintings, sculptures, and photographs by Charles Ray, Pipilotti Rist, Tina Barney, Isaac Julian, Dash Snow and Kehinde Wiley.

New York City Opera has announced that Cheyenne Jackson (XANADU, ALL SHOOK UP, FINIAN'S RAINBOW) will join the fall concert's cast of Lucky to Be Me: The Vocal Music of Leonard Bernstein, on Saturday, November 6 at 8 pm and Sunday, November 7 at 1:30 pm. The concert, which will be held at the David H. Koch Theater, is directed by Ted Sparling and conducted by City Opera music director George Manahan. This exciting concert examines the work of one of America's most influential composers, including music from the Kaddish Symphony, Mass, Songfest, Wonderful Town, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, On the Town, West Side Story, and more. It will feature the musical talents of Jackson and other Broadway favorites: Victoria Clark, Christine Ebersole, Kelli O'Hara, Donna Murphy, Michael Cerveris, Darius de Haas and Michael Urie. Marty Thomas (XANADU, WICKED, THE SECRET GARDEN) will host intermission and post-show festivities.

Goodman Theatre celebrates its 10th season in Chicago's North Loop Theatre District with a fresh take on an enduring masterpiece- Candide, Voltaire's effervescent, picaresque adventure, newly adapted and directed by Chicago's own Mary Zimmerman, the Goodman's Manilow Resident Director. A cast of 19 and an orchestra of 12, under the direction of Music Director Doug Peck, bring to life nearly 30 songs in Leonard Bernstein's glorious score, and recreate Voltaire's satirical story of Candide (Geoff Packard)-a young optimist shipwrecked, soldiered, swindled and separated (repeatedly) from his true love, Cunegonde (Lauren Molina). For this major revival, Zimmerman has tapped her signature design team-Daniel Ostling (Set), Mara Blumenfeld (Costumes), T.J. Gerkens (Lighting) and Richard Woodbury (Sound). Danny Pelzig choreographs the cataclysmic events that ensue.

Lincoln Square announces its October lineup of events starting with New York City's largest holiday festival, Winter's Eve at Lincoln Square. The event will take place on Monday, November 29, 2010. Now in its 11th year, Winter's Eve features free entertainment, food tastings, family fun and live music along Broadway from Time Warner Center to 68th Street. Tens of thousands of people flock to Lincoln Square on the first Monday after Thanksgiving to enjoy great food, more than 20 free musical and dance performances, children's activities, ice-sculpting, and special shopping promotions at area retailers. To kick off the evening's festivities, we will once again host a neighborhood tree lighting ceremony at Dante Park at Broadway and 63rd Street at 5:30pm.

Metropolita(i)n, the new bilingual, socio-political musical revue with songs and sketches that explore the similarities and differences between these great capitals (NYC/Paris) and their people at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, 407 West 42nd Street, Friday, November 19th through Monday, November 22nd at 7pm.

Pioneer Theatre Company presents Bram Stoker's Dracula, October 22, 2010 - November 6, 2010.

Dicapo continues its 2010-11 season with a presentation of Puccini's beloved La bohème on October 15th thru October 23rd. This production is directed by Michael Capasso with sets by John Farrell, costumes by Angela Huff, and lighting by Susan Roth. Acclaimed conductor Samuel Bill leads the ensemble.

Tony Award nominee Marcia Milgrom Dodge (Ragtime) will direct Tony Award nominee Xanthe Elbrick (Coram Boy) in the world premiere production of Venus Flytrap by Anthony Dodge. Venus Flytrap will begin performances on November 4, 2010 at The Workshop Theater.

On Thanksgiving weekend, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Jacques Lacombe present a vibrant program featuring Elgar's timeless Enigma Variations and NJSO Concertmaster Eric Wyrick performing Princetonian Edward T. Cone's Concerto for Violin and Small Orchestra, as part of the Orchestra's New Jersey Roots Project. The program also includes Webern's orchestration of Bach's 'Ricercare' from The Musical Offering.

Nueva Escena is pleased to present HARDWARE DREAMS, written and performed by Sunilda Caraballo, directed by Joe Ricci. HARDWARE DREAMS will play a 1-week limited engagement at Theater for the New City (115 1st Avenue, between East 9th and East 10th St.), as part of the Borimix Festival 2010. Performances begin Thursday, November 18th through Sunday, November 21st.

The evening will feature OPERA ELVIS: A LAMENT FOR THE KING a classical take on the works of Elvis Presley; scenes from HENRY'S WIFE by composer Randall Eng and ROSENKRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD, based on the play by Tom Stoppard and adapted as an opera by composer/librettist Herschel Garfein; and 'A Poem Written For the Concrete Beneath the Bridge' by Caleb Burhans. The show will be held on Monday, October 18 at 8pm at Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood. Tickets are $20 ($15 for students/seniors) in advance at www.galapagosartspace.com and $25 at the door.
