New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has issued a mayoral proclamation declaring today, September 4, 2008 to be 'Samuel J. Friedman Theatre Day.'

Bloomberg honored August: Osage County with a Mayor's Proclamation in honor of the show's 300th performance and continued success, stating that August: Osage County has 'yielded tremendous cultural and economic benefits for' New York City and has 'reaffirmed New York's proud heritage of welcoming the world's boldest, most powerful works of art.'

New York City Ballet and New York City Opera today announced that their companies' shared home at Lincoln Center will be renamed the David H. Koch Theater, in honor of Mr. Koch's $100 million lead gift to the Ballet and Opera's joint capital campaign for the New York State Theater.

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Metropolitan Opera, and New York City Opera will present A Tribute to Beverly Sills, a free public event dedicated to the memory of the great soprano, on September 16 at 5PM at the Metropolitan Opera. Sills, one of the most popular figures in the history of opera and a champion of the performing arts, died on July 2, 2007 at the age of 78.
