Custom Made Theatre Co. Opens 2016-2017 Season with CHESS

Custom Made Theatre Company opens its 18th season in San Francisco with Chess, the legendary rock opera from Tim Rice ("Evita","Jesus Christ Superstar") and Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, members of the celebrated pop group, ABBA. Set towards the end of the cold war, Chess uses politics and sport as metaphor for a love triangle between an enfant-terrible American superstar (loosely modeled on Bobby Fisher), his Hungarian-born lover/second, and a Soviet player looking to start a new life.  

Will Eno's MIDDLETOWN to Run 3/24-4/23 at Custom Made Theatre

? From the author of Broadway's The Realistic Joneses (now playing at ACT) and Thom Paine (based on nothing) comes Middletown,  Will Eno's take on Our Town - which follows the lives of the inhabitants of  a place called Middletown as they intersect in strange ways.  Middletown runs March 24-April 23 at Custom Made Theatre, 533 Sutter Street, San Francisco, 94102.

Custom Made Opens Season with Kurt Vonnegut's SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE Tonight

A satirical and horrifying anti-war story, Slaughterhouse Five, carries a unique poignancy - and humor. A best seller when released, the novel brought Vonnegut to prominence as a major voice in American fiction. It has been adapted for the stage by Tony-nominated and Oscar-winning Eric Simonson and is directed by Custom Made Theatre's Artistic Director Brian Katz.

Custom Made Theatre Presents the Bay Area Premiere of Christopher Durang’s WHY TORTURE IS WRONG, AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM 1/11-2/10

Custom Made Theatre presents the Bay Area premiere of Christopher Durang's Why Torture is Wrong, and the People who Love Them. This highly original black comedy centers around a young woman who suspects that her new husband -- whom she married while drunk -- may be a terrorist. Durang, the crown prince of American absurdists, spins a mirthful, politically infused tale full of outrageous characters. Directed by Claire Rice at Gough Street Playhouse, 1622 Gough Street, San Francisco, January 11 - February 10, 2013.

42nd Street Moon Presents ZORBA, Now thru 5/20

42nd Street Moon, the company that presents intimate productions of uncommon musicals, concludes its 2011-12 season with a journey to Greece and Crete for the Kander and Ebb classic, ZORBA. Based on the book Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis, this musical is a salute to the spirit of Greece, where Zorba celebrates life, but also lost love, heartbreak and death. Opening is tonight, Saturday May 5 at 6 pm. The show will run through May 20.

Maureen McVerry to Direct Moon's Oh, Kay!

Award-winning actress Maureen McVerry will direct the second musical of 42nd Street Moon's l9th season: George and Ira Gershwin's OH, KAY! (1926).
