Eliot Feld's KIDS DANCE, called 'a New York City treasure' by The New York Times, makes its annual visit to The Joyce for six performances, June 8-11.   The remarkably poised, scrupulously schooled, and impeccably rehearsed whiz-kids, numbering 60, ages 11-17, will delight audiences young and old with Feld classics Meshugana Dance and The Jig is Up, along with two Feld works created especially for Kids Dance: Upside Dance and the new Pointing, a premiere for four young ladies en pointe. 

Eliot Feld remains committed to creating a repertory of dances created especially for young dancers.  For the June 8-11 season of Kids Dance, Feld will premiere one new ballet.  There will also be one new dance by Laura Careless, and a second new work by a trio of young choreographers who are graduates of or seniors at Juilliard: Conner Bormann, Riley O'Flynn, Stephanie Terasaki. 

In celebration of the history and scope of Indian dance in America, From the Horse's Mouth will dedicate its next theater/dance performance event to this storied art form, including its early connections to Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn, Jack Cole, and the fascinating early Indian dancers in America Balasaraswati, Ragini Devi, Indrani, and many more. Live music will be included in this colorful tribute, curated by Rajika Puri, doyenne of Indian Dance in NYC.

Malpaso Dance Company returns in 2016 to the scene of their overwhelming, standing- room-only triumph in the 2015 YARD ARTS season with two (2) new and different programs - 1) a sparkling repertory of Cuban and American works on Tuesday, August 16th at the MVPAC in Oak Bluffs (at 7 PM); and 2) a work in progress, Dreaming of Lions, based on Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea," developed in part in a Yard 2016 Offshore Creation Residency, on Thursday, August 18th, at The Yard's Patricia Nanon Theater (2 performances, at 11 AM and 8 PM).

We all know that Eliot Feld – who might be New York City's most accomplished man in dance – has a love for calisthenics, vernacular twists and grooves, and folklore. But since closing his ballet company in 2003, his work has been primarily with students who cannot understand the dry wit inherent to his choreography. The effect is decidedly discombobulating. One wishes that Mr. Feld would either up the ante in his work – there were no pirouettes or turns, though there was plenty of batterie, which tends to be more difficult – or further develop the artistry of his charges.

The New York Youth Symphony (NYYS), composed of orchestra, chamber, jazz, conducting, and composition programs-heads into the 2015/16 season having provided over 5,000 music students between ages 12 and 22 unparalleled opportunities to perform at world-class venues including Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center and to study with world-renowned artists, all tuition-free. Beyond the instruction from accomplished musicians, students gain valuable life skills-commitment, discipline, focus, collaboration-and friendships that last a lifetime. 

Hilda Morales was born in N.Y. City, and grew up in Puerto Rico. Her early training was with Ana Garcia of the Ballet San Juan. At 14 years of age, Ms. Morales received a Ford Foundation Scholarship to study at George Balanchine's School of American Ballet. She danced as a principal dancer with the Pennsylvania Ballet, soloist with American Ballet Theatre, artist-in-residence with the Colorado Ballet and guest appearances with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Albuquerque Ballet and Jacksonville Ballet. During her dancing career, Ms. Morales performed in full-length classic ballets as well as works by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Agnes de Mille, Antony Tudor, John Butler, Alvin Ailey, and Jose Limon. Ms. Morales was featured in the movie The Turning Point, in the role of Sandra, directed by Herbert Ross. She guest teaches and is on the faculty of the Central Pennsylvania summer programs, and joined The Hartt School faculty in 1998.

American Theatre of Actors will hold a musical theater benefit on May 11th for St. Joseph's Indian School (www.stjo.org) in Chamberlain, South Dakota, which serves the impoverished Lakota children of the Pine Ridge and other reservations. Jane Culley, producer of the event and Vice President of American Theatre of Actors, has been a long-time supporter of the school. A remarkable roster of performers from Broadway, Cabaret and the dance world will donate their time and talents to this cause. In addition, stars of the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham dance companies will perform, and ATA actors will present a short play about the plight of the Lakota accompanied by native drummers.

The Joyce Theater will present the U.S. debut of Cuba's MalPaso Dance Company, performing the U.S. premieres of works by Ronald K. Brown and the company's artistic director Osnel Delgado, from May 27 - June 1. This engagement on the stage of The Joyce's landmark Chelsea home marks the first time MalPaso will perform outside of Cuba since the company's 2012 formation. The schedule for this summer's Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival, which runs from July 20 to August 10, was announced today by Bill Bragin, Lincoln Center's Director of Public Programming. Nearly 100 free performances will take place across the plazas of Lincoln Center during three weeks. A special Memorial Concert for Pete and Toshi Seeger on July 20 will be followed by the official opening concert on July 23 with Larry Harlow's Hommy: A Latin Opera, the landmark work's first performance in 40 years. Spring comes in leaps and bounds with the return of Philly's own modern dance company Philadanco performing Blood, Sweat, and Dance, Thursday -Saturday, April 17-19, 2014, at Perelman Theater. Known for their electrifying dance moves mixing energized modern dance with the elegance of classical ballet, Philadanco's new program highlights include the company premiere of 'Bad Blood,' a rarely performed piece by renowned choreographer Ulysses Dove; juxtaposed with the return of 'Philadelphia Experiment' by Philly-native and world renowned hip hop choreographer Rennie Harris; the late Philadelphia choreographer Gene Hill Sagan's classic, 'Suite en Bleu;' and acclaimed modern dance choreographer Donald Byrd's 'Bamm.'
