The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center will present its annual Monte Cristo Award to legendary Broadway and screen actor James Earl Jones, in recognition of his monumental achievements and contributions to the American and international theater community. The award will be presented to Mr. Jones at a gala dinner held in his honor at Bridgewaters - South Street Seaport in New York City on Monday, May 9th at 6:30pm.

Barbra Streisand is still set to play Mama Rose in GYPSY movie, despite author Arthur Laurents' death, according to Michael Musto of The Village Voice.

The Broadway community mourns the loss of Arthur Laurents, who passed away Thursday night at age 93.

Nominations in 26 competitive categories for the American Theatre Wing's 65th Annual Antoinette Perry 'Tony' Awards were announced May 3, 2011 by Tony Award winning actor Matthew Broderick and Tony Award winning actress Anika Noni Rose, at the Tony Award Nominations Announcement sponsored by IBM.

The 56th Annual Drama Desk Awards, hosted by Harvey Fierstein, will be held Monday, May 23, at 9:00 PM at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan Center, 8th Avenue and 34th Street. This year, for the first time, a 90-minute Highlights Special of the Drama Desk Awards Ceremony will be televised nationally on OVATION, the national cable network dedicated to presenting creative arts programming to national TV audiences. The ceremony will be given two primetime broadcasts plus four other airings between June 4 and June 19, 2011.

Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, DRIVING MISS DAISY will end its extended Broadway premiere engagement April 9 at the John Golden Theatre with its three original stars: Tony Award winners James Earl Jones, Vanessa Redgrave and Boyd Gaines.

If Streisand gave herself over to the part...singing 'Rose's Turn' is all about giving up control and discovering it every time. I think Streisand is very in control. She would be like, 'I'm going to fart, and everyone's going to hear it!'

Deadline.com is now reporting that despite comments that Arthur Laurents made to the Hartford Courant earlier this month, that a GYPSY movie starring Barbra Streisand is still a possibility. They report that 'a deal is close to being made at Universal Pictures, with Joel Silver producing. Streisand's still in as Rose and so are book writer Arthur Laurents and lyricist Stephen Sondheim.' and that 'Multiple sources said that the deal that's closing gives the show creators a strong say over the screenwriter, director, choreographer and who'll play the roles of Herbie and Louise. Warner Bros retains the rights to be co-financier after it rejected a deal that would have granted those same approvals to heirs.'

Ten Chimneys, offering a revealing look at Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, will be presented in a staged reading starring Dana Ivey (The Importance of Being Earnest), Boyd Gaines (Driving Miss Daisy) and Lisa Banes (Go Back to Where You Are) by The Acting Company on Monday, March 14 at 7pm at the Mainstage Theater of Playwrights Horizons, 416 West 42nd Street. Directed by David Ira Goldstein, artistic director of Arizona Theatre Company, where Ten Chimneys had its recent World Premiere, the play is by Jeffrey Hatcher (Tuesdays with Morrie, Murder by Poe). Now, Arthur Laurents tells the Hartford Courant that the film as did. As per the paper: 'But now Laurents says the film version is not going to happen 'for a really fascinating reason, much bigger than 'Gypsy.' '
