Florida Grand Opera Announces New Music Staff

Florida Grand Opera (FGO) is pleased to announce the promotion and addition of new members to its music staff. Katherine Kozak, continuing in the position of Chorus Master at Florida Grand Opera and celebrating 20 years in the opera industry, will be promoted to also serve as Head Coach of the company's Young Artist Program. Howard Lubin will serve as Senior Coach, and Paul Schwartz and Paul Kovacovic will fill the roles of staff accompanists.

THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO Begins Fourth Year of Merola Opera Program's Film Screenings

The Merola Opera Program and the San Francisco Public Library Main Branch present a free screening of Mozart's opera The Marriage of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) at the next Merola Goes to the Movies, on Sunday, September 11th, 1:00 pm, in the Koret Auditorium of the San Francisco Public Library Main Branch (100 Larkin Street). Admission is free.

Harris Theatre Presents BEYOND THE ARIA, 10/17

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance, in association with Lyric Unlimited, has announced the return of Beyond the Aria - the highly acclaimed performance series produced by the Harris Theater which pairs internationally celebrated opera singers of Lyric's mainstage alongside rising stars from The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Die Gewinner des Österreichischen Musiktheaterpreises 2015 stehen fest

Bei der Verleihung des Österreichischen Musiktheaterpreises im Wiener Ronacher wurden Kunstlerinnen und Kunstler fur ihre Leistungen in der Spielsaison 2013/14 in elf Kategorien ausgezeichnet. Die Preistrager fur das Lebenswerk (Neil Shicoff), fur das Beste Festival (Wiener Festwochen | Markus Hinterhauser) sowie der ORFIII Preis an Piotr Beczala standen bereits im Vorfeld fest. Der Krone Musicalpreis ging an Uwe Kroger.

Stephanie Blythe & Warren Jones to Perform at Carnegie Hall, 5/15

On Friday, May 15 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, Carnegie Hall presents celebrated mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe in recital with pianist Warren Jones in a program of popular songs by Poulenc, Ferré, Brel, Britten, and Coward. One of the most respected and versatile artists of her generation, Ms. Blythe recently starred as Gertrude Stein in the world premiere production of Ricky Ian Gordon's Twenty-Seven, an opera commissioned for her by the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. In 2013, Innova Records released Ms. Blythe's first crossover album As Long as There are Songs, featuring selections from the Great American Songbook arranged together with pianist Craig Terry. Together Ms. Blythe and Mr. Jones have performed recitals in major concert halls across the United States.

OPERATHON 2014, Lyric Opera of Chicago's annual live-radio marathon fundraiser on 98.7WFMT, celebrated its 35th anniversary by raising more than $550,000 (gross) during its 16-hour broadcast on Saturday, October 11.

Lyric Opera of Chicago's 60th anniversary season continues with Capriccio, starring Renée Fleming and conducted by Sir Andrew Davis, longtime collaborators in performance and colleagues as Lyric's creative consultant and music director respectively. Richard Strauss's final opera “reunites Renée in a signature role with Sir Andrew, in a lovely production previously seen here in 1994,” says Anthony Freud, Lyric's general director.

Tonight's program, which begins at 7:30 pm, is a thank-you performance for Lyric's more than 25,000 subscribers. The concert with the Lyric Opera Orchestra, conducted by Lyric Music Director Sir Andrew Davis includes selections by Verdi, Massenet, Gounod, and others.

George London Foundation to Welcome Lori Guilbeau & John Relyea in Recital, 3/9

Renowned bass John Relyea, who is performing in the Metropolitan Opera's current production of Rusalka with Renée Fleming; rising young soprano Lori Guilbeau, a 2010 George London Award winner; and pianist Warren Jones will share the stage for the second event in the season's George London Foundation Recital Series on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 4:30 PM at The Morgan Library & Museum. The series presents pairs of outstanding opera singers, many of whom were winners of a George London prize early in their careers or are recent George London Award recipients. Lyric Opera of Chicago Announces 60th Anniversary Season, Featuring Lang Lang and Renee Fleming

Lyric Opera of Chicago announced its 2014-2015 season today, which is set to include eight operas, a world premiere new opera, a one night only piano concert with internationally acclaimed pianist Lang Lang, and special family performances. Lyric's 2014-15 subscription season will offer 68 performances of eight different operas Saturday, September 27, 2014 through Sunday, March 15 , 2015. Lyric will also present 17 performances of a new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel in April 2015, continuing the company's American Musical Theater Initiative.

Die Fledermaus is conducted by Ward Stare with E. Loren Meeker in her Lyric Opera directorial debut.
