The Joyce Theater Announces Spring/Summer 2019 Season

Linda Shelton, Executive Director of The Joyce Theater Foundation, announced today the New York City dance organization's programming for its Spring/Summer '19 season. Featuring a host of New York and world premieres, as well as iconic works from lauded companies, The Joyce Theater fulfills its mission of promoting the richness and variety of the performing arts to embrace the entire spectrum of movement styles and traditions. the upcoming Joyce season is poised to deliver engaging pieces for dance aficionados and newcomers alike.

Kurt Elling Sings Christmas at Segerstrom Center for the Arts Today

Segerstrom Center for the arts presents Grammy® Award-winning vocalist Kurt Elling in a special holiday set “The Beautiful Day” - Kurt Elling Sings Christmas for two performances on December 15 at 7 pm and 9 pm. Declared by The New York Times as “the standout male jazz vocalist of our time,” Kurt Elling returns to the Center with a special program that will feature a repertoire of songs from his holiday album, The Beautiful Day. Elling says, “I knew I didn't want to make a 'religious' record, just as I knew I didn't want to make a standard, swingin' jazzy Christmas. I'm trying to expand my consciousness and embrace the goodness of the season, and I want to include everybody. For me, Christmas is a time of consideration, of pondering mysteries.”  Inventive and fresh, this very special program reimagines the sounds of Christmas, mixing traditional carols decked out in new arrangements with songs that are revelations and rediscovered treats. Elling wraps the universal themes of hope, light, wonder, mystery, and goodwill in musical packages full of delightful surprises.

New York Theatre Ballet's Once Upon A Ballet Series Presents Keith Michael's THE NUTCRACKER

New York Theatre Ballet announces the company's 2018-19 performances of their critically acclaimed Once Upon a Ballet series geared to audiences ages 3 and up and running time of one hour for young attention spans. This season's offerings include: Keith Michael's The Nutcracker from December 14-16, 2018 and Cinderella February 9 & 10, 2019 at Florence Gould Hall, 55 E 59th St, New York, NY 10022. Will Roland, Ana Villafane & More Named Clive Barnes Awards Finalists

The Clive Barnes Foundation, under the leadership of former Royal Ballet soloist Valerie Taylor-Barnes, announced today the finalists and date for the 9th Annual Clive Barnes Awards. Hosted by New York Post columnist and WOR radio personality Michael Riedel, the presentation of the annual awards recognizing excellence in theater and dance will take place on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 3:00pm at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center (165 West 65th Street).

Guillaume Côté Joins The Bolshoi Ballet as a Guest Artist in ROMEO AND JULIET

Principal Dancer Guillaume Cote has been invited to appear as a Guest Artist with The Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, Russia. Mr. Cote will dance the role of Romeo in Alexei Ratmansky's Romeo and Juliet on December 15, 2018 at the Bolshoi Theatre's New Stage, a role he originated when the ballet premiered in Toronto in 2011. Mr. Cote is one of very few Canadians, and the first dancer from Quebec, who have danced with The Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow; that number includes Ms. Kain who performed with them in the 1970's.

Antony Tudor Ballet Trust Announces New Amanda McKerrow As New Trustee

The Antony Tudor Ballet Trust is pleased to announce that Amanda McKerrow has been appointed to be its new Trustee, effective immediately. Ms. McKerrow will be responsible for preserving the work and legacy of Antony Tudor for future generations, ensuring that Tudor's works and teachings are never lost. Sally Bliss, who became the Trustee after Antony Tudor's death in 1987, will step down from this position after 30 years. She will remain as Trustee Emeritus.

Works & Process at the Guggenheim Announces Spring 2019 Season

Works & Process at the Guggenheim is pleased to announce its spring 2019 season. Since 1984 the performing arts series has championed new works and offered audiences unprecedented access to leading creators. Programs explore the artistic process through stimulating discussions and riveting performance highlights. Each 70-minute program takes place in the intimate Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Peter B. Smuin Brings Etta James, Rodin & More To Carmel & Mountain View

Smuin continues its 25th anniversary season with Dance Series 01, a dazzling program that pushes the boundaries of contemporary ballet. Acclaimed dancemaker Trey McIntyre returns to Smuin with Blue Until June, a thrilling tribute to Etta James. Continuing Smuin's long-time dedication to fostering new talent within the company is a trio of groundbreaking works first developed in Smuin's Choreography Showcase: Merely Players by Smuin dancer Nicole Haskins, Reflection by Smuin dancer Ben Needham-Wood, and Sinfonietta by former Smuin dancer Rex Wheeler. Dance Series 01 will also include Michael Smuin's timeless Schubert Scherzo, an effervescent dance set to Schubert's sprightly C-Major Symphony and The Eternal Idol, Michael Smuin's romantic pas de deux inspired by Auguste Rodin's iconic sculptures. Dance Series 01 will be presented February 1-2 at the Sunset Center in Carmel and February 21-24 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. Ballet Sun Valley Presents San Francisco Ballet Performing At Sun Valley Pavilion

Ballet Sun Valley announces today that it will present the internationally acclaimed San Francisco Ballet led by Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson, July 5 and 7, 2019, in the Sun Valley Pavilion. This much anticipated weekend of dance will also feature an Education Program, that was developed to inspire and teach all levels of ballet to young students from around the country.

Alvin Ailey Brings Three Midwest Premieres To Auditorium Theatre In March

The Auditorium Theatre announces programming for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's return to Chicago March 6-10, commemorating the company's 60th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of its first performances at the Auditorium, its Chicago home. During these special engagements, Ailey gives Midwest premieres to its first ever two-act ballet, Rennie Harris' Lazarus; Wayne McGregor's Kairos; and Jessica Lang's EN. Verb Ballets Celebrates the Life of Ian Horvath

Verb Ballets, Northeast Ohio's premiere contemporary ballet company, celebrates the life and work of Ian Horvath (1943-1990) on February 9, 2019 in an evening titled Dance Legacy: Celebrating the Life of Ian Horvath. The three-part performance will honor Horvath's impact on dance in Cleveland and will recognize his work as an AIDS advocate. Tragically, he lost his battle to AIDS at the age of 46.

Multi-talented singer/dancer/actor/choreographer Rome Saladino will celebrate the stylings of Grammy and Juno Award-winner Michael Buble in Feelin' Good - A Tribute to Michael Buble at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center on December 20th and return to the Boca Black Box Center for the Arts on December 23rd.  (The show was a sell-out when it played at the Boca Black Box in April.)

The Kennedy Center Presents Ballet Across America, Featuring Dance Theatre Of Harlem And Miami City Ballet

Exploring the breadth and depth of artistry within American ballet, the Kennedy Center's Ballet Across America series returns May 28-June 2 for seven performances in the Opera House. This season's engagement features deeper looks at companies led by distinguished Artistic Directors Virginia Johnson and Lourdes Lopez with their respective companies, Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) and Miami City Ballet (MCB). Each company will present a full program while a one-night-only celebration on May 31 features a shared program that includes both companies in a world premiere Kennedy Center commission by renowned choreographer Pam Tanowitz.
