THE GREAT FILIPINO AMERICAN ASWANG PAGEANT - University Theatre

The Great Filipino-American Aswang Pageant
Written by Kat Stevens | Creative Lead Philip Odango

ABOUT
The Great Filipino-American Aswang Pageant is a new play currently in development. We are seeking actors to be part of both the creative development journey and the final staged production in October.

Navigate a world filled with fantastical creatures and heartwarming camaraderie while uncovering the true meaning of identity and self-discovery in The Great Filipino American ASWANG Pageant - a groundbreaking production that defies expectations as it weaves together the worlds of mythology, camp, and high-stakes pageantry using music and scandal! This unique production is a collaboration between playwright, Kat Stevens; creative lead, Philip Odango; and RO?GE: Theater Reinvented.

The Great Filipino-American Aswang Pageant is rooted in Filipino and Filipino-American identity, culture, and mythology. Some roles are written with specific cultural, racial, or ethnic backgrounds in mind. There are other roles that will not require those specificities, so we encourage performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and abilities to audition, while honoring the cultural specificity of this work. Selected actors will be asked to participate in virtual script development sessions, including online readings and discussions with the playwright and creative team. These sessions will take place between July and August.

Most, if not all, development work will be conducted remotely via Zoom. We welcome artists who are passionate about new work, collaborative storytelling, and uplifting Filipino-American perspectives and folklore.
