CHAGALL IN NEW YORK - Theater For The New City
Looking for a sensitive little girl to play the role of lead protagonist Virginia Haggard's six year old daughter, Jean. We are absolutely NOT looking for a perky child actress type. Instead, we are looking for a someone, umm, a little bit nerdy? Her main scene occurs as she and her mother pose for a Marc Chagall painting, and Marc Chagall playfully invents a housefly flying around the kid's head. It's a sweet kind of poignant scene. The kid finally bursts into tears and Chagall comforts her -- you'd have to read the script to understand the context. Obviously, parental involvement is key in this.
