The Over Our Head Players will be holding open auditions for the play “BIRTHDAY CANDLES” by Noah Haidle.
Auditions will be held on Tuesday, September 30th at 7:00pm at the Sixth Street Theatre, 318 Sixth Street, Racine, WI, 53403. Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script. Bringing a prepared monologue is not required.
The cast consists of six actors who will play multiple characters across five generations of one family. The central character, Ernestine, will be played by a single actor who ages from 17 to 101 over the course of the play. There will be three males and three females needed.
Parts available:
- Ernestine – Ages from 17 to 101. Her journey explores the passage of time and the meaning of life.
- Kenneth – Ernestine’s awkward and annoying next-door neighbor who might be the love of her life.
- Alice/Madeline/Ernie – This actor will play multiple female characters throughout the play Ernestine’s mother, daughter, and granddaughter.
- Matt/William – This actor plays two male characters. Ernestine’s husband and their 13th grandchild.
- Bill/John – This actor plays two male roles. Ernestine’s son and a man awakened in the night by an elderly Ernestine.
- Joan/Alex/Beth – The actor will play three female characters. Billy’s wife, Billy and Joan’s daughter, and John’s domestic partner.
Rehearsals will begin by mid-October. Performances will open the weekend before Thanksgiving (November 21st) and will run for four weekends until mid-December (December 14th) Shows run Fridays at 8:00pm, Saturdays at 5:00 and 8:00pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm.

The Over Our Head Players is a non-profit organization of volunteer theatrical talent presenting their 34th season. Their season also includes Lizzie, the 22nd annual Snowdance 10 Minute Comedy Festival, and the original puppet musical Salmon-A-Rama. Founded in 1992, the mainstay of OOHP has been contemporary comedy; they also have a commitment to original productions.
