SEEKING LATINO ACTORS/MUSICIANS
We are seeking to cast a diverse Latino ensemble, including bilingual (English/Spanish) actors able to sing, act, and play instruments.
PREPARATION
Please prepare a one-minute monologue (in either English or Spanish), a song excerpt (1-1 1/2 minutes), showcasing vocal range and musicality. Instrumental ability in the style of mariachi a plus!

LUCHA MORALES - early 20s, U.S. born Mexican American. Bilingual. Struggles with her father’s expectations. Dreams of one day becoming a nurse. Soprano, plays violin.
HORTENSIA “BOLI” PÉREZ - early 20s, Mexican American. Bilingual. Lucha’s cousin. Hungry to learn about the world. Fiercely loyal, and protective of her family and friends. Alto, plays guitar.
AMALIA MORALES - late 40s/early 50s. Mexican American. Bilingual. Mother of Lucha, married to Federico. She is battling early onset dementia, and is mostly lost in the past. Used to play the violin, and will play an excerpt in the show. Soprano. Also performs as DOÑA LOLA, an elderly, eccentric lady.
FEDERICO MORALES - late 40s/early 50s. Mexican. Immigrated to the U.S. as a young man. Bilingual. Father of Lucha, married to Amalia. Works as a cook by day, and is a professional mariachi by night. Does not cope well with wife’s illness. Tenor, plays guitar. Also performs as CHOIR MEMBER.
ISABEL CAMPOS - early to mid 20s. Mexican American. Bilingual. Married to Mateo. Shy and has a hard time speaking up for herself. Soprano, plays trumpet. Also performs as PARTY GUEST.
MATEO CAMPOS - early to mid 20s. Bilingual. Married to Isabel. Struggles with the traditions of “macho” culture. Also plays DRUNK UNCLE, CHOIR MEMBER, HOLY ROLLER SINGER/TRIANGLE PLAYER/LOS MUCHACHOS, RENÉ, and RUBÉN. Baritenor, plays guitar.
GABBY OROZCO - late teens/early 20s. Mexican American. Born-Again Christian. Lacks confidence, style, and experience in the world. Her Spanish is not that great either. Works as a baker, and plays electric bass at her church. Alto, plays guitarrón. Also performs as BERTA, DRUNK UNCLE’S WIFE, and CHOIR MEMBER.
SOYLA REYNA - early to mid 40s. Born in Colombia. Immigrated to the U.S. as a young woman. Bilingual. Owner of Salón Superior de Soyla. Always well put together. Savvy about the world, opinionated, self-sufficient, sexually confident, and supportive of the young women. Soprano, plays vihuela. Also performs as PARTY GUEST, SISTER MANUELA, FEMALE HOLY ROLLER SINGER/TAMBOURINE PLAYER.
MINO AVILA - late 40s/early 50s. Mexican. Compadre of Federico, but they haven’t spoken in years. Bilingual. A mariachi and music historian. A soft-spoken and humble man with a broken heart. Tenor, plays guitar or vihuela. Also performs as PADRES FLORES, and HOLY ROLLER YOUTH PASTOR/SINGER.
TÍA CARMEN - late teens/early 20s. Is a memory/spirit. A mariachi. Alto.
MARIACHIS, MARIACHI SPIRITS, CHOIR MEMBERS, HOLY ROLLER BAND, LOS MUCHACHOS - Ensemble tracks. Instrumentalists who play underscore throughout. Plays guitar, vihuela, guitarrón, trumpet, tambourine, and/or other mariachi instruments.
