ENEMY Slated for New National Theatre of Tokyo in July

"Why do people make war?" This is the theme we will explore in the 2009/2010 season.

The season finale will be the season's sole new work. The NNTT commissioned playwright Horai Ryuta to write the script, and has asked Suzuki Yumi to direct.

The period from around 1968 or '69 into the early '70s marked the beginning of the end for the idealism that had come before, and a transition from an era of war to an era when people refused to fight. We thought it would be good to have Horai write about this transitional period, with the young perspective and hope for the future he brings as one born in 1976.
