Rainelle Krause to Sing Queen of the Night in THE MAGIC FLUTE with Houston Grand Opera

Texas soprano Rainelle Krause will return to her home state to sing the famous character of Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute with Houston Grand Opera. The iconic role is what provided Rainelle with a ticket to stardom in Europe, when she flew straight to Berlin and jumped in to sing a production with the Staatsoper Unter den Linden before she had even unpacked her bags. Her ability to navigate stratospheric coloratura has opened doors to Queen of the Night performances in several of Europe's most famous opera houses including Danish Royal Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Theater Basel, and Wiesbaden.

Krause's high-flying nature is not limited to music. In addition to singing opera, Rainelle enjoys practicing and performing with silks as an aerialist. She combines her athletic and vocal skills in videos like her Queen of the Night aria with Opus Opera.

Though she has enjoyed the adventure of traveling and working in Europe, Krause has been looking forward to bringing her talents back to the U.S. where more of her friends and family can attend her performances. Houston provides one of her first major opportunities, and she soon thereafter sings The Magic Flute with North Carolina Opera in Raleigh, North Carolina. "I feel like honing my chops in Europe for the past few years has been invaluable in the development of my artistry, and I am so excited to have the chance to share that with American audiences!"

Though the music remains the same in all of the various stagings of Mozart's well-known opera, the conceptual telling of the story can vary widely. Rainelle's recent outings for the character include productions where she is a geriatric woman in a wheelchair, a bird-like animal caught in a cage, and regal, bejeweled monarch. Houston's upcoming production from Komische Oper Berlin is not new for Krause. She sang it previously at Danish Royal Opera, and she is excited to once again take the stage as a stage-spanning skeletal spider in the silent film-inspired production
