PREPARATION

Please prepare a 2-minute contemporary comic monologue. No classical monologues please. Please bring 1 copy of your headshot and resume stapled together.

We'll be upstairs in the Mixed Blood rehearsal room. Please enter from the purple door at the back, facing the parking lot, up the wooden ramp. There is street parking as well as an open air, paid parking lot.

WARROAD COMMUNITY POTLUCK

SYNOPSIS:

Hijinks and shenanigans at a community potluck designed to once and for all decide the rivalry between Warroad and Roseau. Written in collaboration with the residents of Warroad, MN, as well as being a very loose adaptation of The Inspector General, this new play reflects the lives and concerns of this up north town. This is an original play that is still being written and revised in response to community feedback.
Bilingual (English/Spanish, English/Lao) performers are welcomed and encouraged to audition.

SEEKING:

BOB, 40s-50s, male. Helping his mother Polly run the family resort in the Angle, after the loss of his dad. He has lots of opinions on what a community potluck should be. Somewhat of a narrator.

ALREADY CAST:

CAROL - really wants to win. Head of the potluck organizers
RHIANNA, DEBBIE, VERA - co-chairs. Work as a team, organizing the potluck, the dances, everything.
LUIS - it’s his first community potluck, Coco’s son. Spanish speaker
SALLY JANE - Carol’s daughter
MARISOL - Luis’s little sister, Spanish speaker

DJ - brings the banner and plays volleyball
ELI - a fisherman. Dated Wendy in high school.
RK - a painter, Native
WENDY - Carol’s assistant, recently divorced.
COCO, ALEJO, RAF - cooking the pig, Spanish speakers
POLLY - Bob’s mother. Runs the family resort. A proud “Woman Angler of Minnesota”
MADISON and ADDISON - Mistakenly spot the wrong judge.
DAMIEN - mistaken as the judge of the community potluck, actually a golf pro hocking his new book
DARLING - Carol's mother and Sally Jane’s grandmother. Looks like a sweet MN grandmother, but is also a viciously competitive card shark
BETH - an assistant librarian
MAGGIE - new to town
FREDDY - from Roseau
KEO - professionally dressed, joins the rap in the middle of the play
LULU - runs the Heritage Trivia game
EDIE - Native. Mistaken as the judge of the community potluck, actually in Warroad looking for her birth father.
BLOGGER - recording reactions to the taste test to play on the radio
STEVE - the real judge of the community potluck, Steve Hagen.
PARENTS - a chorus of Warroad parents
KIDS - a chorus of Warroad kids
DANCERS - Dancers from Debbie’s school
POTLUCKERS - a group of folks who each brought something for the taste test.
