Seeking (all roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted) unless otherwise specified):

Theatre’s casting notes: “All [characters] are smart, attractive, highly verbal, with good senses of humor. They are on the verge of middle age. Life is changing, and they are all having trouble dealing with it. They (except for Jean Pierre) met at an Ivy League college, and have been an extended family ever since.”

Jane:

38, Caucasian. A recent widow, poet, high school test supervisor and mother who is having trouble letting go. Attractive. Everyone thinks she and her (now deceased) husband were “the perfect couple”. Frustrated, sick of being “the grieving widow”, she is filled with guilt and secret shame and is having trouble moving forward.

Marrell:

38, African American woman. Jazz singer (actress must sing – maybe play piano). Jane's best friend. A brand new mother, married to Tom. Tired, unhappy. Has the “hots” for Jean Pierre.

Tom:

Early 40s, Caucasian. Self-taught, a not-quite-successful woodworker. New father. Married to Marrell and yearns for Jane.

Alan:

40, Jewish. TV personality with impeccable memory. Gay. Jokes. Drinks too much. Possibly overweight. Godfather to the children. Would like a more meaningful life but is reluctant to take risks.

Jean Pierre:

Late 30s, French man. A Doctor-Without-Borders, briefly in the US for a conference. Very attractive. Committed to traveling far and wide to help people in need of medical care. Intimate, personal relationships and the pain they cause are not his thing.

Theatre’s statement: “We consider actors of all races and ethnicities.”
