Equity actors for roles in THE UGLY DUCKLING (See breakdown).
Those with intersections in BIPOC, PGM, and LGBTQIA+ are encouraged to audition.
Actors of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, and backgrounds are encouraged to audition.
The production will tour elementary and middle schools as well as youth organizations in the greater St. Louis Metropolitan and Western Illinois areas. Tours can be booked throughout Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas and may have overnight stays.
PREPARATION
Please prepare 2 Sides of your choosing from the provided options. If you are interested in reading for UD (Ugly Duckling), please prepare 3 Sides of your choosing from the provided options. All actors should also prepare an uptempo 32-bar cut. An accompanist and reader will be provided. If you are a musician, you are welcome to accompany yourself for this audition. THE UGLY DUCKLING: Finds the courage to go on a journey of constant discovery to find belonging. Open-hearted, daring, and determined to discover who they are.
GOSSIPY DUCK / ROOSTER / WILD GOOSE 2 / FARMER / SWAN 1: THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST. A mentor, guide, and storyteller with a good sense of humor.
MOTHER DUCK / HEN / FARMER’S WIFE / SWAN 2: As Mother Duck - determined to support all of her children, even the one she doesn’t understand. As the Hen - matter of fact, no nonsense, smarter than you. As the Farmer’s Wife - constantly skeptical of her husband and worried about her pies.
DUCKLING 1 / TURKEY / WILD GOOSE 1 / FARMER’S SON (KID 1) / SWAN 3: As Duckling 1 - direct and not at all afraid of sharing how they feel and what they think. As Turkey - not going to go along with your antics. As Wild Goose 1 - the star of the party. As Farmer’s Son (Kid 1) - wants a shiny new toy before his sibling.
DUCKLING 2 / GOOSE / CAT / FARMER’S DAUGHTER (KID 2) / SWAN 4: As Duckling 2 - a little more subtle than Duckling 1, tries to be kind. As Goose - not looking for another argument today. As Cat - very proud to be an indoor cat. As Farmer’s Daughter (Kid 2) - always gets the toy second but isn’t going to give up without a fight.
