Seeking:
Maria Callas Understudy:
(Role being played by TYNE DALY.) Grand, dramatic, imperious, hugely charismatic. A force of nature. Her best days are behind her, and she clings to the past. But even diminished, she is larger than life. A survivor.
Manny:
30s-50s. The onstage accompanist in Callas’ master class. Must be an excellent pianist and experienced accompanist within the classical and operatic repertoire. He admires Callas a great deal and does his best not to be unnerved by her. MANNY has a few lines throughout the play, but this performer’s main duty in the play is to accompany the singers.
Stage Hand:
30s-50s. Prototypical carpenter/electrician guy. Jeans and t-shirt type who does not engage in the dramatics of the performers around him. A backstage lifer.
Notes: The role of Maria Callas is cast (Tyne Daly).
