BREAKDOWN
HOLIDAY
A NOTE ON STYLE: We are seeking actors with strong comedic sensibilities for all roles.
SEEKING:
LINDA SETON
Female, early-mid 30s, White. Striking and smart. Cutting; she’s quick-witted with a biting sense of humor. Wistful and lovely but also short-circuited. Despite her lavish upbringing, she’s built a more bohemian life for herself that she is passionate about - teaches ESL, creates sculptures, and even has her own place in Red Hook. Often puts her siblings’ needs before her own and can’t quite let go of her home or her family.
JULIA SETON
Female, late 20s – early 30s, White. LINDA’s younger sister. A conventional beauty, and just plain conventional when it comes to the upper-class societal expectations of an ingenue. Believes she’s helpful; knows she’s right. Sensible and level-headed. Fancies herself an “entrepreneur.” Utterly devoted to her father. This “whirlwind romance” is her first attempt at a sliver of free-spiritedness, but the realities of her everyday life/lifestyle force her to rein in her emotions for the logistics of a relationship.
NED SETON
Male, late 20s – early 30s, White. LINDA and JULIA’s little brother. Unfiltered and funny. A nepo baby in many ways – reaps the benefits of the family business, unmotivated in the career handed to him on a silver platter yet finds reasons to complain about it. Struggling with substance abuse addiction, and though it is very serious (and will likely kill him), he makes light of it all.
EDWARD SETON
Male, 60s, White. Phenomenally wealthy heir to the family business and the wealth that comes with it. Quick-witted with a dry sense of humor – a trait he’s passed down to all of his children. There’s an ease and charm about him, but always with an agenda attached to it. Looming power over his children. Fiercely protective over the family legacy.
JOHNNY CASE
Male, early 30s, White. Charismatic and magnetic – he glows with energy. Intelligent and hardworking, and despite his great success remains unspoiled. Something a bit enigmatic about him – though fully grown, still possesses a boy like naivete/innocence. Though he’s worked his way up to a very want for nothing lifestyle as an attorney, the Seton family’s wealth is in a league of its own that astonishes him.
NIKKA WASHBURN
Female, mid late 30s, Black. Friend, separately, to Johnny and Linda. A professional fundraiser. Charming and confident. Charismatic and with a great sense of style. Loves her friends and knows them better than they know themselves. Lives life to the fullest.
SUSAN FELD
Female, late 30s, White. NIKKA's wife. Down to earth. Has a very dry wit. She and NIKKA have a solid foundation; they blend well. Heiress but to virtuous money.
SETON CRAM
Male, mid – late 30s, White. Cousin to LINDA, JULIA, and NED. Filthy rich (which he loves) and very “to the manner born.” Unbearably pompous – will capitalize on any opportunity to tell you how well off he is. Fits in very well with the affluent Connecticut crowd. Sucks the energy out of the room. SKILLED COMEDIC CHOPS.
LAURA CRAM
Female, mid-late 30s, any ethnicity. SETON’s wife. Perhaps even more unbearable than SETON. Sharp — in a biting sense, not of the wits. Married into wealth, and it is palpable. Refuses to eat “cute” things. SKILLED COMEDIC CHOPS.
WALTER
Male, late 20s-early 30s, of the global majority. The young private chef. Likes LINDA and defers to JULIA. Believes EDWARD when he drops the odd suggestion that they start a restaurant together. SKILLED COMEDIC CHOPS.
