SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in Beef & Boards Theatre's 2026 Season (see breakdown). Actors who are racially, ethnically, and physically diverse, as well as, inclusive of all gender identities, sexual orientations, and abilities are encouraged to audition.

PREPARATION

Please prepare two contrasting vocal selections; one up-tempo and one ballad. Music in the correct key. A one-minute monologue may or may not be requested. Please bring an updated picture/resume. Bring dance clothes and your entire vocal book for potential dance call back at 6:00 PM.

'THE MOUSETRAP'

SEEKING:

MOLLIE RALSTON: (Female-presenting, 20s - 30s, any ethnicity); young wife of Giles Ralston and the proprietor of Monkswell Manor. Despite knowing very little about the bed-and-breakfast business, she eagerly jumps into both business management and the household tasks of cooking and cleaning. Mollie is not as naive as she initially seems, especially when dealing with the difficult guest Mrs. Boyle or handling the odd ball guest Christopher Wren. However, Mollie does have a mysterious past revealed in connection with the murders of Longridge farm.

GILES RALSTON: (Male-presenting, 20s - 30s, any ethnicity); Mollie’s attentive and sometimes over-protective husband, managing Monkswell Manor alongside her. While Mollie attends to more of the household tasks, Giles works outside of their bed-and-breakfast establishment, chopping wood, chucking coal, and taking care of the hens. He is immediately suspicious of the young stranger Christopher Wren and argues against leaving Mollie alone with him. However, some of his actions arouse suspicion against him and what possible connections he could have with tragic events at Longridge Farm.

CHRISTOPHER WREN: (Male-presenting, late 20s, any ethnicity); the first guest to arrive at Monkswell Manor, the establishment owned by Giles and Mollie Ralston. He is a young man in his early twenties, described as having long, disheveled hair and eccentric ties. Christopher is quickly enamored with Monkswell Manor, exploring all rooms and furniture. He actively flirts with Mollie, much to Giles’ frustration, and then takes on the task of helping Mollie cook meals. Because of his eccentric nature, he is an immediate suspect in the mysterious murders connected to Longridge Farm.

MRS. BOYLE: (Female-presenting, 50s - 60s, any ethnicity); A former court magistrate, Mrs. Boyle is a pompous, pretentious woman who immediately presents herself as unlikeable and unsympathetic. She is quickly critical of Mollie and her ability to manage Monkswell Manor, and is in fact critical of the house itself. The younger guests—especially Miss Casewell and Christopher Wren—set out to antagonize her with great success. However, Mrs. Boyle is killed at the end of Act One, a result of her connection to the tragedies of Longridge Farm.

MAJOR METCALF: (Male-presenting, 40s - 50s, any ethnicity); a jovial and sporting man, retired from the army and always willing to lend a hand. Little else is known about him, but in his interactions, he generally tries to raise the spirits of those around them: he sees shoveling snow as good exercise and compliments the simple breakfast in spite of a fellow guest’s complaints. Like the other guests of Monkswell Manor, he holds a surprising secret to his identity.

MISS CASEWELL: (Female-presenting, late 20s - 30s, any ethnicity); Described as “manly,” Miss Leslie Casewell arrives as an aloof guest at Monkswell Manor. She does not reveal much about her past, but in a conversation with proprietor Mollie Ralston, Miss Casewell advises ignoring psychiatrists and turning a back to the past. She is not afraid to manipulate people to get what she wants but soon finds herself in a situation too overwhelming to manage.

MR. PARAVICINI: (Male-presenting, 50s - 60s, any ethnicity); the mysterious and unexpected guest at Monkswell Manor, the last to arrive when his car overturns in a snowdrift. He reveals very little about who he is or where he is from, instead enjoying his strange sense of mystery and putting others ill at ease.

DETECTIVE SERGEANT TROTTER: (Male-presenting, late 20s, any ethnicity); arrives at snowed-in Monkswell Manor on skis, eager to find a person of interest connected with a murder in London the previous night. He also believes that a potential murder victim could be at Monkswell Manor, someone linked to the tragic Longridge Farm case of years past. He is abrasive and manipulative in his questioning, bordering on eccentric and myopic in his mission.

PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL

SEEKING:

VIVIAN WARD: (Female-presenting, 20 - 30, any ethnicity) A charming, unique, and captivating woman, reluctantly working as a sex worker on Hollywood Boulevard, secretly dreams of a better life, akin to a modern-day Cinderella. A chance encounter with a billionaire, who is feeling lost, throws her into a whirlwind journey among the elite of Beverly Hills. Throughout this fish-out-of-water experience, she learns her true value and becomes resolute in taking control of her own future. Has excellent comic timing and powerful pop/rock vocals, including a high belt up to F5.

EDWARD LEWIS: (Male-presenting, 30 - 40, any ethnicity) An outstanding lead performer with strong comic timing and a powerful pop/rock voice, capable of reaching up to A4. A sharp, accomplished, and highly-educated business tycoon who specializes in taking over failing companies and liquidating their assets. Beneath his tough, work-focused exterior lies a sensitive and artistic side, with a deep appreciation for music and the arts. He hires Vivian seeking uncomplicated, temporary companionship, but she unexpectedly turns the world upside down, making him realize that he must change if he wants to keep what truly matters.

KIT DE LUCA: (Female-presenting, 25 - 45, any ethnicity) A superb pop/rock vocalist with a powerful high belt up to F#5 and excellent comedic skills. A seasoned sex worker and party girl who mentored Vivian, showing her how to navigate life on the streets. Though tough and witty, she soon realizes that Vivian has much to teach her about perseverance and not settling for less. Inspired by Vivian’s determination, she embarks on her own journey toward a better life.

MR. THOMPSON/HAPPY MAN: (Male-presenting, 30 - 55, any ethnicity) An exceptional pop/rock singer with a tenor range, capable of switching effortlessly between styles. Must have strong comedic and acting chops, along with excellent dance ability. This character serves as Vivian’s magical fairy godfather on Hollywood Boulevard, starting out as a quick-witted seller of Maps to the Stars who encourages her to cling to her dreams. He later transforms into Mr. Thompson, the polished and efficient manager of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, teaching Vivian how to ballroom dance and, most importantly, how to believe in herself.

PHILIP STUCKEY: (Male-presenting, 30 - 45, any ethnicity) A talented actor with strong singing ability, who exudes charm and attractiveness. This character is a driven and relentless lawyer, having collaborated with Edward Lewis on numerous successful hostile takeovers. Obsessed with wealth, he is willing to push the limits of legal and ethical boundaries to achieve his goals. When Edward's deepening relationship with Vivian starts to jeopardize his business interests, he transforms into a formidable and dangerous opponent.

DAVID MORSE: (Male-presenting, 30 - 45, any ethnicity) A skilled actor with strong singing ability and solid movement/dance skills. This character is a self-made industrial tycoon who owns a major shipbuilding company. Facing the threat of losing vital Naval contracts, his business becomes a target for takeover by Edward Lewis and Philip Stuckey. However, he is fiercely determined to fight back, driven by his commitment to keep his employees working and preserve his company.

GUILIO/ENSEMBLE: (Male-presenting, 18 - 25, any ethnicity) Must convey a youthful appearance. Requires a strong technical dancer with excellent pop/rock singing skills. This ensemble role features a standout moment as the young bellhop at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Exudes wide-eyed innocence and has strong comedic timing. On the shorter side in height. Tumbling experience preferred.

ALFREDO/ENSEMBLE: (Male-presenting, 25-45, any ethnicity) To appear in the ensemble with a featured role as an opera singer portraying Alfredo in a La Traviata sequence. Requires a magnificent high tenor operatic voice, with the ability to sing in a pop/rock style up to A4. Strong movement ability is also essential for this role.

VIOLETTA/ENSEMBLE: (Female-presenting, 21-45, any ethnicity) To appear in the ensemble with a featured role as an opera singer portraying Violetta in a La Traviata sequence. Requires a stunning high soprano operatic voice with range up to Bb, along with the ability to perform in a pop/rock style. Strong movement skills are also essential for this role.

DON LOCKWOOD: (Male-presenting, 30s - 40s, any ethnicity); Tenor (G2-Ab4). Film: Gene Kelly. A suave Hollywood actor and dancer who started in Vaudeville and now must make the transition from silent to talking films. Cosmo’s best friend and Lina’s regular co-star, he falls in love with Kathy. Charismatic, romantic, and comedic triple threat.

KATHY SELDON: (Female-presenting, 20s - 30s, any ethnicity); Mezzo (G3-F5). Film: Debbie Reynolds. An earnest, talented actress with wit and charm. She falls in love with Don and performs as Lina’s speaking and singing voice in the second film. Strong triple threat with “it” factor who can play strength and vulnerability simultaneously.

COSMO BROWN: (Male-presenting, 30s - 40s, any ethnicity); Tenor (C3-Ab4). Film: Donald O’Connor. A wacky and playful on-set pianist for silent films. Don’s best friend and former dance partner in Vaudeville. A strong comedic triple threat.

LINA LAMONT: (Female-presenting, 30s - 40s, any ethnicity); Mezzo (C4-Eb5). Film: Jean Hagen. A seemingly ditzy silent film diva with a big personality and harshly unpleasant voice. She is Don’s regular co-star, and shows a ruthless, cunning streak to protect her status with the transition to talking films. Strong comedic character actor, who can sing off key intentionally.

R. F. SIMPSON: (Male-presenting, 50s - 60s, any ethnicity); Film: Millard Mitchell. A successful, magnanimous, film producer. He leads the other characters in creating a new movie musical. Commanding character actor who can move.

ROSCOE DEXTER: (Male-presenting, 30s - 50s, any ethnicity); Film: Douglas Fowley. A famous film director with theatrical mannerisms and tendencies. Frequently frazzled and works with Lina and Don. Strong comedic actor who can move.

DORA BAILEY: (Female-presenting, 40s - 50s, any ethnicity); Film: Madge Blake. A Hollywood gossip columnist, based on Louella Parsons. Comedic character actor who can move.

ZELDA ZANDERS/ENSEMBLE: (Female-presenting, 30s - 40s, any ethnicity); Film: Rita Moreno. A flapper socialite and actress on her ninth marriage. She is Lina’s friend and informant. Comedic character actor who can dance and sing.

SEEKING:

CINDERELLA: (Female-presenting, any ethnicity) A charming young lady with the kindest heart in the kingdom. Sees the good in everyone despite her hardships and suffering from her Stepmother and stepsisters. Dreams of and is determined to find a better life for herself. Sings very well.

PRINCE CHARMING: (Male-presenting, any ethnicity) Beloved Prince of the Kingdom. Though handsome and young, this prince is also lonely and unfulfilled. He is charming of course, but also moral, genuine, and in search for something more. Sings very well.

KING: (Male-presenting, any ethnicity) The Prince’s father. A bit of a fuddy-duddy who loves his son and wife, and always has the best of intentions.

QUEEN: (Female-presenting, any ethnicity) The Prince’s lovely mother. Always wants the best for her son, and does her best to keep her husband in line. At times serious, but always affectionate.

STEPMOTHER: (Female-presenting, any ethnicity) Cinderella’s Stepmother. A beautiful, vain, and unapologetically dismissive woman, who is unkind and even sometimes cruel to Cinderella. Mainly concerned with her wealth, and her own offspring's happiness.

PORTIA: (Female-presenting, any ethnicity) One of Cinderella’s stepsisters. An obnoxious, self-centered, goofy young woman with a fatuous laugh and, unfortunately, little signs of intelligence. Character singing.

JOY : (Female-presenting, any ethnicity) One of Cinderella’s stepsisters. A brash, bratty young woman, who never passes up the opportunity to be the center of attention. Not particularly bright. Character singing.

GODMOTHER: (Female-presenting, any ethnicity) An extremely pragmatic, no-nonsense, original, and mysterious character, who helps fulfill Cinderella’s wish to go to the ball and change her destiny. Character singing.
