Notice: Audition Call Type: EPDA
[ AL ] any ethnicity/race, late 30s, male. From the Bronx. Street smart, tough, macho, and newly married to Kristine; very protective and supportive of her. Strong Tenor.
[ BEBE ] any ethnicity/race, early 20s, female. Very insecure about her looks and tries to be funny to cover her insecurities. Feels a little excluded but just wants to be liked. She is quiet, vulnerable and kind. Mezzo.
[ BOBBY ] any ethnicity/race, 20s, male. Flamboyant, funny and witty, with a humor that’s a little left of center. Very sharp tongued. Covers everything over with a joke; had a very hard childhood. From upstate New York. Baritone.
[ CASSIE ] any ethnicity/race, 30s, female. Returning to the chorus after years of being a featured performer, she is having to humble herself to audition for the chorus again with younger and less experienced dancers. Previously had a relationship with Zach and it did not end well. World class dancer, singer and actor — a true triple threat. Soprano.
[ CONNIE ] Asian-American, 20s to early 30s, female. Tiny (She says she’s 4’10”). Experienced dancer. Married. A bit of a mother hen with a great sense of humor. Born in Chinatown, New York. Alto.
[ DIANA ] Latina, 20s, female. A streetwise, yet eternal optimist. A determined and athletic dancer from the Bronx. Alto, sings well.
[ DON ] any ethnicity/race, late 20s, male. From Kansas City. Had wild experiences as a teenager but is now more settled and married with two kids. Don maintains other jobs along with his love of Broadway. Baritone.
[ GREGORY ] Jewish, late 20s to early 30s, male. One of the wiser and older dancers at the audition. Has a sharp, dry sense of humor. He’s worked with Zach before. From the East Side of New York. Baritone.
[ JUDY ] any ethnicity/race, female, 20s. Funny, gawky, nervous. Warm and hopeful. Very awkward except when dancing. Mezzo.
[ KRISTINE ] any ethnicity/race, early 20s, female. Newly married to Al, it’s her first audition and she’s really nervous. Excellent dancer. Can’t sing (during her song) but performer should sing well for everything else. She’s one of the youngest auditioning. Awkward, anxious, hilarious. Mezzo.
[ LARRY ] any ethnicity/race, mid to late 20s, any gender identity. Zach’s assistant who teaches and demonstrates the audition dances. Needs to be a great dancer, as they are the standard to which all of the auditioning dancers are held.
[ MAGGIE ] any ethnicity/race, mid 20s, female. A sweetheart, little sister type. A bit meek but loves the theatre. Dreamer. Fairly experienced dancer from California. Soprano with thrilling upper register.
[ MARK ] any ethnicity/race, 18+ to play late teens to early 20s, male. Optimistic; first-timer; naïve but quite earnest. Really wants to get into the show and is a good dancer. Tenor.
[ MIKE ] Italian-American, 20s, male. Determined, cocky, sure of himself, but likeable. Extremely strong/confident tap dancer who worked with Zach before. Experienced; flirtatious. From New Jersey. Tenor. Acro/Tumbling a major plus.
[ PAUL ] Latino, late 20s to early 30s, male. Introverted and slightly insecure but loves performing; worked as a drag queen when he was younger but is now pursuing Broadway. He’s hiding parts of his life from Zach, but he eventually confronts his past during an emotional, pivotal moment in the show. From Spanish Harlem, New York. Baritone.
[ RICHIE ] Black, late 20s to early 30s, male. From Missouri. Enthusiastic, cool and very funny. Likeable, laid back and a strong dancer. Tenor with strong falsetto.
[ SHEILA ] any ethnicity/race, 30s, female. One of the oldest dancers on the line. Sheila is of similar age to Cassie and Zach. Has worked with them many times before, and is very comfortable and relaxed on stage, if not the best technical dancer. She started dancing to escape her home life. Confident, brassy, sassy, bratty and sophisticated - great/dry humor. Alto.
[ VAL ] any ethnicity/race, late 20s, female. Sassy, funny. Knows what she wants and will go out to get it with a great sense of performance. A brazen, direct, attention-seeker from Vermont. Mezzo - sings “Dance 10, Looks 3”.
[ ZACH ] any ethnicity/race, mid to late 30s, male. The director and choreographer of the show for which the dancers are auditioning. He is a stage veteran and thus can be curt and harsh, but he is revealed to be a caring and empathetic man who truly grows to care about these dancers. Previously had a relationship with Cassie, before she left to pursue a career in LA. Open to non-dancers, but dance background a major plus.
