ELECTRIC EDEN By Playwright Jimmy Fairhurst Will Open Shanghai International Festival

By: Oct. 04, 2017

According to the warringtonguardian.com playwright Jimmy Fairhurst, with his co-writer Louise Haggerty, will open the Shanghai International Festival with his new production Electric Eden, which he describes as, "'Ken Loach meets rock and roll.'"

Of the show, Jimmy told The Warrington Guardian, "We really try to celebrate regional identity because we don't think people are proud enough about where they come from. I want to put us on the map and opening the Shanghai International Festival is not a bad way to start."

Electric Eden will have twelve performances over eight days in China, but will first be shown on Friday, October 13 at Burtonwood Catholic Club. Electric Eden follows the story a group of misfits who have to save their beloved nightclub after their gaffer, and friend, Tommy Eden, passes away. Harry Potter and Tyrannosaur actor Peter Mullan will voice Tommy.

Jimmy had a lot of inspiration when writing Electric Eden, some of which include the tales of "Toy Mic Trev" and other "David and Goliath" stories, as well as the changing town of Warrington. This is Jimmy's fifth production with Not Too Tame, and he describes this production as being influenced by seeing his brother Dean, who is providing the music for the show, and his band tour with The Who.

The cast stars Andrew Butler as Craig Shuttleworth, Jimmy Fairhurst as Sid Skyes, Louise Haggerty as Grace Eden, Peter Mullan as The Voice of Tommy eden, Mairi Phillips as Phoebe Phillips, as Dylan Wood as Leo Riley.
