Photo Coverage: Inside Metropolitan Room's NEXT DRAG QUEEN CONTEST
By: Stephen Sorokoff Apr. 02, 2013
The sparkles will be flying this spring as the Metropolitan Room hosts its first "New York's Next Top Drag Queen Contest." The six-week affair, running five Mondays through May 6 (no show on April 8), will pit eight pre-selected drag queen artists who will be judged not by looks alone but by how well they sing and entertain. Check out photos from the first round below!
"New York's Next Top Drag Queen" is produced by the Metropolitan Room, Joseph Macchia and Michelle Buttigieg. The contest's permanent judges include the MAC and Bistro award-winning cabaret producer Joseph Macchia ("Cabaret Cares" and "Broadway on 22nd Street" and "Boys Night Out"), the Broadway veteran and cabaret star T. Oliver Reid (winner 2011 MetroStar; 2012 MAC debut, and 2013 Bistro), and Frankie C. (columnist for Odyssey Magazine). The Mystery Judge will remain "closeted" until the very end. A Metropolitan Room heddliner, Hedda Lettuce stars in the annual holiday classic "Lettuce Rejoice," all over TV, and, elsewhere on "The Hedda Lettuce Show," and "The Dixie Chicks with Dicks."
