German Stage Star Katharine Mehrling Brings Her Show To Joe's Pub, Today
Katharine Mehrling, one of the great leading ladies of musical theatre in Europe today, brings her celebrated concert to Joe's Pub in New York City on September 22, 2018 at 7PM. Following an unparalleled singing and stage acting career that began in the cast of the London revival of HAIR leading to principal roles throughout Europe in Irma La Douce, Piaf, Funny Girl, Kiss Me Kate, The Three-Penny Opera, Tell Me On A Sunday, Cabaret and Evita among many others, Katharine is now bringing her own show to America.
Performing an eclectic and intriguing repertoire of songs in her native German, as well as in French and English, Katharine brings us the grand 'Chanson' tradition, mixing classic songs by Hollaender, Aznavour and Piaf with less familiar material from the Berlin Jazz Operettas of the Weimar Republic, among others, including her unusual German interpretation of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" along with original songs, telling personal and heart-breaking stories from her fascinating life.
Directed by Titus Hoffman, Ms. Mehrling performs with a 3-piece band.
Radio France International has said, "Katharine Mehrling is a must-see performer" and Berliner Zeitung proclaimed her voice to be "pure magic, smoky and intimate, yet it blows you away".
Recognized as one of the greatest interpreters of the chansons of Edith Piaf, Katharine is a four time winner of the Best Actress Award from the Berlin Theatre Association for her portrayal of Judy Garland in End Of The Rainbow, Diana Goodman in Next To Normal, as well as for her performances at the Komische Oper Berlin in Arizona Lady, Ball at the Savoy and My Fair Lady.
Together with German Jazz legend Rolf Kühn she wrote the songs for her award winning album Am Rande Der Nacht (On The Edge Of Night).
Katharine Mehrling has worked in television and film in Europe and appeared in Bryan Singer's film Valkyrie.
