"EXTREME FOOD SCULPTORS" Premieres on August 16 at 10 PM ET/PT. Most sculptors work with marble, clay or wood. But some intrepid carvers rely on flexible sugar, "dead dough" and even fruits and vegetables! On Monday, August 16 at 10 PM ET/PT, TLC goes behind-the-scenes with EXTREME FOOD SCULPTORS, a new one-hour special documenting three food-sculpting teams on deadline to deliver astonishing works of culinary art.

BREAD: Chef Ciril Hitz, department chair of the International Baking & Pastry Institute at Johnson & Wales University is a man on a mission. Over the next three days, he will attempt to break a world record by baking and building a highly detailed, seven-tier, 18-foot tall showpiece made entirely of bread. Leading a team of students and faculty, it's a race against time to bake and compile over 1,000 separate components. It takes a lot of dough for the world's tallest bread structure, and with 740 pounds prepared in one day, Chef Hitz and his team of culinary architects are on track to complete the towering sculpture and set a new world record.

SUGAR: Executive pastry chef David Blom is on deadline to deliver two types of desserts for a Barrett-Jackson invite only gala and car auction. With over 2,500 hungry guests in attendance, David and his team plan to create thousands of individual desserts and a brilliant showpiece a life-size flaming tire made entirely of sugary goodness. Utilizing six different sugar techniques, the massive centerpiece is roughly four times larger than anything Chef Blom and his team has ever created.

FRUITS AND VEGETABLES: Chef David Weathers, a master fruit and vegetable carver is building a colossal centerpiece for a charity ball gala in addition to preparing dinner for 850 hungry patrons. Leading a staff of 15 untrained cooks with no commercial experience and armed with 50 pounds of cabbage and carrots, 15 pounds of beats, five watermelons and over 100 pounds of assorted vegetables, Chef Weathers balances supervising his novice chefs and planning, constructing and transporting an unstable culinary creation based on his wife.

EXTREME FOOD SCULPTORS is produced by Stone & Company Entertainment for TLC.
