The Metropolitan Opera's fourth season of free final dress rehearsals continues on Monday, November 30 with Bartlett Sher's new production of Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, conducted by Met Music Director James Levine. Joseph Calleja stars in the title role, with Anna Netrebko as Antonia, and Alan Held as the four villains.

The dress rehearsal begins at 11:00 am; and the doors will open at 10:30 am. This is the second in a series of open rehearsals this season, a program supported by Agnes Varis, a managing director of the Met's Board of Directors, and her husband, Karl Leichtman for the fourth consecutive year; they also underwrite the Met's popular Rush Ticket program.

Approximately 3000 free tickets will be available (2 tickets per person) through an online ticket drawing; entries will only be available at the Met's website at www.metopera.org. The entry dates are from Friday, November 13 through the evening of Wednesday, November 18. Winners will be chosen on Thursday, November 19 and names will be posted on the Met's website (www.metopera.org) that afternoon. Winners have until Wednesday, November 25 to pick up their tickets at which time they will be forfeited. The hours for the ticket pick-up are Monday through Thursday 10:00am - 5:00pm, Friday 10:00 - 7:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday 1:30 - 6:00pm.

Inspired by Kafka, Sher describes his new staging of Les Contes d'Hoffmann as a "magical journey in which the title character works out different manifestations of his psyche." The opera opens on Thursday, December 3 and runs through January 2, and will be transmitted live to hundreds of theaters around the world as part of The Met: Live in HD series, on Saturday, December 19.
The Les Contes d'Hoffmann open rehearsal is among a number of free public events offered by the Met this season, including the first open final dress rehearsal of Tosca last September, and its opening night gala performance transmission onto multiple screens in Times Square and Lincoln Center's Josie Robertson Plaza. The third final dress rehearsal will be on Friday, April 9 for Mary Zimmerman's new production of Rossini's Armida, starring Renée Fleming. More details and ticket distribution information will be available at a later date.
