With tales of deceit and seduction, comedic mishaps, dazzling costumes and some of Australia's favourite artists returning to the stage, the Sydney Winter Season of Opera has something for everyone.

Verdi's tragic masterpiece Rigoletto is re-imagined by Roger Hodgman in a new dark and gothic production starring Italian baritone Giorgio Caoduro and tenor Gianluca Terranova.

Tragedy continues in a bold and unsettling production of Verdi's Otello, starring New Zealand tenor Simon O'Neill.

Foyers will alight with chatter when Teddy Tahu Rhodes tackles a new kind of "Casanova" in David McVicar's dark take on a Mozart classic, Don Giovanni.

With a season full of darkness and tragedy, Simon Phillips' outback take on Donizetti's The Elixir of Love, offers audiences a well-earned comedic break.

The Sydney season continues with the return of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic The King and I, 23 years after its Australian première. With stunning scenery, magnificent costumes and Australia's leading lady of musical theatre, Lisa McCune, this is an event not to be missed.

Rounding out the season is a special appearance by opera's superstar, tenor Jonas Kaufmann, who will perform two Sydney concerts at Sydney Opera House.
