Rodion Pogossov will sing the title role in Rossini's IL Barbiere di Siviglia at this evening's performance, replacing Peter Mattei who sang the title role in Don Giovanni last evening and will sing it again this Saturday. Mattei is himself replacing Mariusz Kwiecien whose recent back surgery caused him to withdraw from the first three performances of Don Giovanni. Kwiecien returns to the cast of Don Giovanni on October 25.

Pogossov, a graduate of the Met's Lindemann Young Artist Development program, made his company role debut in this production during the 2009-10 season and sang it in performances earlier this month. He continues as Figaro for the October 26, 29, February 4, 8, 11, 15, and 18 performances.

IL Barbiere di Siviglia, conducted by Maurizio Benini, also stars Isabel Leonard as Rosina, Javier Camarena as Count Almaviva, Maurizio Muraro as Dr. Bartolo, and Paata Burchuladze as Don Basilio.
