Met Opera Radio on Sirius XM (Channel 74) will present two special broadcasts the week of September 11, one to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and the other in tribute to the tragic passing of tenor Salvatore Licitra.

On Sunday, September 11 at 9 a.m., the channel will commemorate the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks by airing a special performance of Verdi's Requiem for the first time since its initial broadcast on September 18, 2008. A memorial tribute to Luciano Pavarotti, the performance is conducted by Met Music Director James Levine and features four star soloists: soprano Barbara Frittoli, mezzo-soprano Olga Borodina, tenor Marcello Giordani, and bass Ildar Abdrazakov. The Requiem will also be re-broadcast at 9 p.m. on the evening of September 11.

Met Opera Radio on Sirius XM will honor Licitra's memory with a rebroadcast of one of his most notable Met performances in the role of Don Alvaro: a March 11, 2006 broadcast of Verdi's La Forza del Destino. The Italian tenor passed away on September 5, 2011 in Catania, Italy. The performance will air in heavy rotation throughout the week, beginning on September 12 at 6 a.m., with re-broadcasts on September 14 at 6 p.m., September 16 at 12 p.m., and September 19 at midnight. Each broadcast of the opera will open with a special feature including clips from the late tenor's last Met Opera Radio interview in March 2011. Licitra sang 65 performances in eight leading roles during his ten-year Met career, including Sirius XM broadcasts of Verdi's Aida and Un Ballo in Maschera, Puccini's Turandot, Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, and Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana. This performance of La Forza del Destino, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, also stars Deborah Voigt as Leonora, Ildikó Komlósi as Preziosilla, Mark Delavan as Don Carlo, Juan Pons as Fra Melitone, and Samuel Ramey as Padre Guardiano.
