LA Opera and Classical KUSC Present the 7th Season of LA OPERA ON AIR

LA Opera is collaborating with Classical KUSC to produce the seventh consecutive season of LA Opera on Air, a weekly broadcast series of LA Opera performances recorded live at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Beginning with Bizet's Carmen at 10am on Saturday, May 17, 2014, the weekly series will be hosted by KUSC's Duff Murphy and will feature six operas from LA Opera's 2013/14 season. The series will be broadcast locally on Classical KUSC 91.5FM, its repeater stations (see below) and also streamed live online at www.KUSC.org.

The "LA Opera on Air" broadcasts will subsequently be syndicated throughout the United States on the WFMT Radio Network beginning on July 12, 2014. These national radio broadcasts will be heard on 88 main stations and in 256 total markets in 28 states. Opera Month in L.A.
The launch of LA Opera on Air is just one of many notable operatic highlights taking place throughout Los Angeles County during the month of May. The weekend of May 17-18 will see two company premieres opening at LA Opera-Jules Massenet's Thaïs and André Previn's A Streetcar Named Desire, which stars Renée Fleming-followed by a recital by baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky on May 22. Other highlights include Così fan tutte produced by the LA Philharmonic; The Tallest Tree in the Forest, a play about bass Paul Robeson, as well as The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, both presented by Center Theatre Group; a double-bill of An American Soldier's Tale and A Fiddler's Tale at Long Beach Opera; La Calisto presented by Pacific Opera Project; andspring concerts by the Verdi Chorus.
