Florentine Opera to Release Fourth Original Recording, 9/8

Robert Aldridge and Herschel Garfein's Sister Carrie, the latest world-premiere recording of by the Grammy Award-winning Florentine Opera, will be released by the Naxos label for worldwide distribution on Friday, September 8, 2017.

This compelling, masterful new work of American opera will be released in hard copy and all forms of digital download and streaming by the world's largest classical music producer and distributor. The Florentine produced and recorded Sister Carrie for a live audience in October 2016 at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. This recording features some of the best American opera talent and role originators today, including Adriana Zabala as Carrie, Keith Phares as Hurstwood, Matt Morgan as Drouet, and Alisa Jordheim as Lola.

The Florentine previously released original recordings of Rio de Sangre, Elmer Gantry, and Wuthering Heights.

Later this fall, the Florentine will host a formal album release party, at which attendees will be able to hear selections of Sister Carrie, as well as meet the composer, librettist and other creative team members. Details of the event are forthcoming.

Sister Carrie is the fourth recording by the Florentine Opera Company. Previous recordings won three Grammy Awards (one for Rio de Sangre, two for Elmer Gantry.)

This is the second collaboration between the company and the Grammy Award-winning composer and librettist duo, Robert Aldridge and Herschel Garfein.

Sister Carrie is the second world-premiere production produced by the Florentine Opera.

This recording adds to the canon of American opera, and firmly solidifies both the Florentine and Milwaukee's place on the creative map.

This recording was made possible through many generous donations, including those of more than 100 people in our successful Kickstarter online fundraising campaign in 2016.

Based on the novel of the same name written by Theodore Dreiser in 1900, Sister Carrie captures and reveals America at a pivotal time in its social history, as factories industrialized and large segments of the rural population flooded into urban areas. Against this backdrop, Aldridge and Garfein have written an opera that brims and bustles with this monumental American moment.
