Dorothea Roschmann and Mitsuko Uchida to Perform Love Songs by Schumann & Berg at Carnegie Hall, 4/22

The all-star duo of soprano Dorothea Röschmann and pianist Mitsuko Uchida collaborate on a recital program of love songs by Schumann and Berg at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage on Wednesday, April 22 at 8:00 p.m. Ms. Röschmann and Ms. Uchida will perform Schumann's Liederkreis, Op. 39 -- the composer's passionate ode to his beloved wife Clara -- and his Frauenliebe und -- leben, Op. 42, a celebration of a woman's devotion to her husband, pairing those song cycles with Berg's fevered view of love in his Seven Early Songs.

Ms. Röschmann's appearance follows her upcoming Carnegie Hall performance as Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas with Les Violons du Roy and La Chapelle de Québec conducted by Richard Egarr on Sunday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m. as part of Carnegie Hall's month-long Before Bach focus.

Born in Flensburg, Germany, Dorothea Röschmann made a critically acclaimed debut at the 1995 Salzburg Festival as Susanna with Harnoncourt and has returned to the festival many times to sing Donna Elvira, Countess Almaviva, Ilia, Servilia, Nannetta, Pamina, and Vitellia, with conductors such as Abbado, Harding, Mackerras, and von Dohnányi. In the 2014 festival, she sang in Fierrabras with Ingo Metzmacher. At the Metropolitan Opera, she has sung Susanna, Pamina, Elvira, and Ilia with Levine and, at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, she has appeared in numerous productions led by Sir Colin Davis and Sir Antonio Pappano. Ms. Röschmann also appears regularly at La Scala in Milan, the Vienna Staatsoper, and the Bayerische Staatsoper and is closely associated with the Deutsche Staatsoper, Berlin, where her roles include Ännchen with Mehta, Nannetta with Abbado, and numerous performances with Barenboim. In the 2013-2014 season, she sang the title role in Theodora at Carnegie Hall with The English Concert and Harry Bicket.

This season's highlights include a European tour of Mahler's Symphony No. 4 with Mariss Jansons and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Strauss's Four Last Songs with both Daniel Harding and Filarmonica della Scala and with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and Berg's Seven Early Songs with Marc Albrecht and the Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Agathe in Der Freuschütz at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, and Die Schöpfung with Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. This season, Sony Classical released Ms. Röschmann's debut recital CD, Portraits.

Legendary pianist Mitsuko Uchida brings a deep insight into the music she plays through her own quest for truth and beauty. Renowned for her interpretations of Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, and Beethoven, she has also illuminated the music of Berg, Schoenberg, Webern, and Boulez for a new generation of listeners. Highlights this season include performances with the London Symphony Orchestra and Bernard Haitink, the Philharmonia and Esa-Pekka Salonen, and play-directing the Chicago Symphony and Cleveland Orchestras. This season, European recital tour venues include London's Royal Festival Hall, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, Brussels' Palais des Beaux Arts, Berlin's Philharmonie, and the Alte Oper. Ms. Uchida will also tour with soprano Dorothea Röschmann in the UK, Europe, and the US, and with mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená at venues including Vienna's Staatsoper and Paris' Théâtre des Champs Elysées. During summer 2015, she will appear at the Salzburg Festival and Edinburgh International Festival.

Ms. Uchida collaborates closely with the world's finest orchestras and musicians. Recent highlights include Artist-in-Residence at the Cleveland Orchestra and the Berliner Philharmoniker, performing both as a soloist (Beethoven's Piano Concerto cycle with Sir Simon Rattle) and in chamber music. In previous seasons, Carnegie Hall dedicated a Perspectives series entitled 'Mitsuko Uchida: Vienna Revisited' and she also appeared at the Concertgebouw in a Carte Blanche series, in which she directed from the piano Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire, and collaborated with Ian Bostridge, the Hagen Quartet, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Ms. Uchida has also been Artist-in-Residence at the Vienna Konzerthaus, Salzburg Mozartwoche, and Lucerne Festival.

For Carnegie Hall Corporation presentations taking place in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, a limited number of seats, priced at $10, will be available day-of-concert beginning at 11:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 12:00 noon on Sunday until one hour before the performance or until supply lasts. The exceptions are Carnegie Hall Family Concerts and gala events. These $10 tickets are available to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis at the Carnegie Hall Box Office only. There is a two-ticket limit per customer.
