Capitol City Opera (CCOC), the only professional opera company in the Southeast that champions local singers and produces opera accessible to everyone, is pleased to announce its 2017-2018 season.

The season will launch on Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18 at 8 p.m. with Rising Stars, a new staged concert format designed to highlight more than a dozen of the Atlanta-area's most promising young voices. All of the singers are based in Atlanta, and are exceptional talents pursuing a career in singing.

Rising Stars will include scenes from popular opera blockbusters such as Don Giovanni, La traviata, Rigoletto, Carmen, and Porgy and Bess, as well as lesser-known operas that have not been regularly seen on Atlanta stages such as Lakmé, L'arlesiana, Cendrillon, and Granada. The program also highlights a young director, Daniel Weisman, who will be staging the scenes. He will be fully-utilizing the intimate, theatre-in-the-round space at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta in which the audience surrounds the stage, and can see the performances from multiple angles.

Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased online at ccityopera.org.

On Sunday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m., Capitol City Opera's Madrigals Singers will present an evening of traditional a cappella Christmas and holiday carols and songs from the Renaissance and Baroque periods (plus a few contemporary surprises), all in period costume. Experience the joy of the season with music at Highpoint Episcopal Community Church in Sandy Springs. Tickets are $10 per person and are available online at ccityopera.org

On Friday, January 26, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at Petite Violette restaurant, Atlantans can look forward to an evening of opera fun and games at Wine, Dine & Win. Audience members may bid during a lively auction to hear their favorite aria, be challenged to answer opera trivia questions, and become a Capitol City Opera Outreach for Children 'star' by supporting the company's children's program. Guests will also enjoy an evening of merriment that includes heavy hors d'oeuvres and wine. Tickets are $40 and are available online at ccityopera.org.

March 23 to 25, 2018 at Oglethorpe University's Conant Performing Arts Center, Capitol City Opera will present Verdi's La traviata. Based on the true romance of Alexander Dumas and Marie Duplessis, La traviata (the fallen woman) tells the story of Paris' most famous courtesan, Violetta Valéry, who leaves her destructive life to live with her first real love, Alfredo Germont. But social biases, and Violetta's failing health, turn love to tragedy and remorse. One of the most beloved operas in the repertoire, audiences will be swept up in the beautiful music, gorgeous costumes, and heart-breaking story. Tickets are $30-40 and are available online at ccityopera.org.

Composer, conductor, author, and pianist Leonard Bernstein is one of America's most revered musicians. Celebrate his 100th birthday with us at the 26th Annual On the Lightside on July 27 and 28, 2018. This popular fundraiser at Highpoint Episcopal Community Church will include music from Candide, Trouble in Tahiti, On the Town, West Side Story and more. Doors open at 6:30 pm to browse the silent auction items and to enjoy a "bring-your-own" picnic dinner in the air-conditioned indoors. Performance begins at 8 p.m. General Admission is $40.00 and tables for eight are $300.00. Tickets can be purchased online at ccityopera.org.
