Baritone Brian Mulligan to Join DER ROSENKAVALIER at the Metropolitan Opera
Der Rosenkavalier opens on March 27.

American baritone Brian Mulligan will make his role debut as Faninal in Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier, replacing Markus Brück, who has withdrawn.
He is currently appearing as the Herald in the Met's new production of Lohengrin. His Met appearances also include Paolo Albiani in Simon Boccanegra, Valentin in Faust, and Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. He made his Met debut in 2003 as a Watchman in Die Frau ohne Schatten.
Recent performances include Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde at Naples's Teatro di San Carlo, Wotan in Das Rheingold at the Bregenz Festival, Amfortas in Parsifal and Creon in Enescu's Œdipe at the Paris Opera, Wotan in Die Walküre in Stuttgart, Don Pizarro in Fidelio at Irish National Opera, and Jochanaan in Salome at Dutch National Opera. He has also sung Creon at the Salzburg Festival; Mandryka in Arabella, Gunther in Götterdämmerung, Donner in Das Rheingold, the title role of Sweeney Todd, and Richard Nixon in John Adams's Nixon in China at San Francisco Opera; Golaud in Pelléas et Mélisande at Dutch National Opera; Peter in Hänsel und Gretel at Lyric Opera of Chicago; Zurga in Les Pêcheurs de Perles in Zurich; Amfortas and Golaud in Frankfurt; and Balstrode in Peter Grimes at the Vienna State Opera.
Der Rosenkavalier opens on March 27, with soprano Lise Davidsen as the Marschallin, soprano Erin Morley as Sophie, mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey as Octavian, mezzo-soprano Katharine Goeldner as Annina, tenors René Barbera and Kang Wang (April 7) as the Italian Singer, tenor Thomas Ebenstein as Valzacchi, and bass Günther Groissböck as Baron Ochs. Simone Young conducts Robert Carsen's production.
The spring run of Der Rosenkavalier begins on March 27 and 31, with additional performances on April 4, 7, 11, 15 (matinee) and 20.
