Artist in Residence Matthew Aucoin will Host LA Opera's New Late-Night Concert Series

New this season, LA Opera presents After Hours: A Musical Nocturne, a post-show, late-night concert series featuring classical and contemporary music, performed along with rock and jazz selections. The series will be hosted and curated by Artist in Residence Matthew Aucoin and will feature music ranging from Franz Schubert, Gustav Mahler and Francis Poulenc to Bruce Springsteen, Nick Drake and Radiohead. Taking place immediately following select opera performances, these events will feature an array of artists performing in the intimate setting of the Founders Room, located on the second floor of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, 90012).

Presented free of charge, After Hours events give audience members and the public the opportunity to mingle with cast and crew members, and enjoy special performances from LA Opera artists. There will be a cash bar with late-night food options. Those in attendance at that day's opera can go directly to the Founders Room after the performance. A limited number of After Hours tickets for guests not attending that day's performance are available at LAOpera.org/AfterHours. Tickets are free but subject to a $5 service fee.

"There's a unique power to hearing the unamplified human voice up close, so I'm very happy to be hosting an intimate late-night concert series featuring LA Opera artists," said Mr. Aucoin. "I hope this series will give our artists a space to take risks and go on musical adventures in a smaller venue than the Chandler's main stage. The first few concerts will take place after the conclusion of mainstage performances, so our audiences can grab a drink and come to the Founders Room to mingle with LAO artists and enjoy some late-night music-making of many kinds: Lieder, jazz, arrangements of indie rock songs and more. And if you want to join us for just the late-night concert, you'll be more than welcome!"

After Hours Performance Dates and Times
Four After Hours concerts are currently scheduled for the 2016/17 season:

• Sunday, November 27, 2016, at 4:30pm, followingAkhnaten
  Program will feature baritone Rod Gilfry with Matthew Aucoin at the piano
  
• Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 10:30pm, following The Tales of Hoffmann

About Matthew Aucoin
Composer-conductor Matthew Aucoin has begun a three-season tenure as LA Opera's first Artist in Residence, a position created for him. His music has recently been performed by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, members of the Chicago Symphony, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Zurich's Tonhalle Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Alabama Symphony, the American Repertory Theater and Boston's A Far Cry, among others. He will make his mainstage LA Opera debut in November, conducting the company premiere of Akhnaten by Philip Glass, after conducting his new score for the 1922 film Nosferatu later this month as part of the company's Off Grand initiative.
