Chazmere Presents New Video for “Ten” (feat. ScienZe)

The self-produced and self-releasing hip-hop artist Chazmere reminds us what that NYC hustle is all about with his new music video for "Ten," streaming now on Okayplayer. The video features collaborator and fellow NYC Native ScienZe (@dopescienze). "Ten" finds the artist blending hallowing tracks and spot on lyrical prowess with real world imagery creating a completely immersive listening experience; another taste of the upcoming self-titled album, out June 10.

"Ten" follows Chazmere and ScienZe through the streets and subways of New York City. Different tableaux portray real lives of young artists busking to make a living with their craft. As the director and writer himself, Chazmere hand-picked the performers personally to convey his message of "being ten all the time; never nine": "The dancers are some of the best I've ever seen Uptown. Everyone knows of them. The harp player, Elsz, is an artist I'm collaborating with from Australia."

Born in Baltimore and bred in the Bronx, Chazmere is no stranger to the artist's struggle. With "Ten," he describes the difficulty he faced funding his music career, as well as social issues facing young black men today. "This video, this song is about all those who do all it takes to actualize their dreams. Those who are building their careers piece by piece. Those who do all it takes regardless of ego, pride, etc..."

With breathtaking empathy, inimitable by those who have not experienced first-hand life on the streets of New York City, Chazmere is uncompromising and insistent in his flow. His upcoming self-produced album, Chazmere, comes after years of experience in honing his creative process; searching for and finding the producer, songwriter, and recording artist to deliver his most cohesive project to date.

While growing up in the Bronx, Chaz Van Queen was exposed to the music of Sly Stone, Parliament Funkadelic, Stevie Wonder, Slick Rick, and Luther Vandross at an early age and cites DMX's "How's It Going Down" video as hugely influential in developing what he describes as the "establishment" of a "refined experience". Chaz released his first compilation album with growing artist collective Colours of the Culture. Released under Talib Kweli's Javotti Media imprint, ROYGBIV: What A Colorful World was premiered by renowned music blogger John Gotty via UPROXX.
Colours also includes NIKO IS, STYLES P, and Talib Kweli among others.

While many artists struggle to establish an identity, Chazmere is surfacing invigorated and awakened. Chaz has a history of being very deliberate in choosing his collaborators and "Ten" is no exception. "I chose ScienZe for this song [Ten] because we are at similar points in our careers and deal with a lot of the same things while starting our respective businesses." The two are also involved in efforts to better education systems in their respective communities.

When not creating his own music, Chaz Van Queen serves the music community as a teacher with his organization Building Beats. Chaz is a child of soul and funk, growing with hip-hop, channeling culture from the streets all over the world.
