YY Dance Company presents Premiere of VANISHING POINT
Dancer/choreographer Yin Yue presents her YY Dance Company in a program of her explosive works, including the world premiere of Vanishing Point, for an ensemble of five; a solo for Yin drawn from her Within Reach, and the dynamic Through the Fracture of Light, two weekends, September 16 & 17, and 23 & 24 at the Peridance Salvatore Capezio Theater, 126 East 13th Street.
Vanishing Point, a premiere for 5 dancers, was created through the generous support of 92Y Harkness Dance Center's Artist in Residency program. Yue's ensemble of powerhouse dancers support, lift, embrace and interweave in this masterful collaboration set to new wave music.
Yin's improvised solo, excerpted from the full length production Within Reach, will demonstrate her signature razor sharp attack combined with a fluency of movement. The solo took First Place in Choreography at the 2016 Professional Dance Competition in Yue's native Shanghai.
Through the Fracture of Light, a full company work, received its premiere in 2016 at the Schrit_tmacher Festival in Aachen Germany. Set to original music by Juliane Jones and Doug Beiden, the work has been seen in the U.S. at SummerStage 2017, Iowa's Open Doors Dance Festival, and Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival.
YIN YUE trained in her native Shanghai, studying classical ballet, Chinese classical and folk dance. She earned her undergraduate degree at Shanghai Normal University and her MFA in dance from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in 2008. In the five years since she founded her own YY Dance Company, the ensemble has appeared at various international dance festivals, including Schrit_tmacher in Aachen Germany, New York International Fringe Festival, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Dancenow at Joe's Pub (NYC) and more. As a choreographer, Yin Yue was the winner of the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago 2015 International Commissioning Project, winner of the 2015 BalletX Choreographic Fellowship, and winner of Northwest Dance Project's 5th annual Pretty Creative International Choreographic Competition in 2013. She was honored with the Emerging Choreographer of 2015 Springboard Danse Montreal award, and was a finalist at The A.W.A.R.D. Show 2010!, presented by the Joyce Theater Foundation. In addition to directing her own NY-based YY Dance Company, the artist holds the position of Artistic Director/Resident Choreographer at Jiangxi Zhongshan Dance School in China, which has the distinction of being the only private educational organization ranked among top Chinese professional dance schools. YY Dance Company continues to make its mark with its bold, thought-provoking choreographic works.
