Ware Center to Present 'IRISH DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA,' 1/25

If you love Irish dancing, you won't want to miss the "Darrah Carr Irish Dance Extravaganza" Sunday, Jan. 25, 3 p.m. at the Ware Center of Millersville University in Lancaster, when the New York-based Darrah Carr Dance company will joyously demonstrate the full range of Irish dance-from traditional Irish duets, to group and step dance, to unique, modern dance fusion works.

Artistic director and choreographer Darrah Carr, who studied at the Tim O'Hare School of Irish Dance in her native Ohio, went on to graduate from Wesleyan University and earn a Master of Fine Arts at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Carr has been active for more than 15 years in the New York's Irish and modern dance communities as a choreographer, dancer, educator and writer, and recently received the New York City Comptroller's Irish Heritage Award in recognition of her substantial contributions to the cultural life of New York's Irish community. New York-based newspapers Irish Echo and Irish Voice have named Carr to their respective lists of "Top 40 Under 40" and "Most Influential Women of 2010"; she has also been named among "Top 100 Irish Americans of the Year" by Irish America magazine.

In addition to her work with her dance company, Carr has independently collaborated with a number of esteemed artists, including as assistant choreographer to Seán Curran for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, "James Joyce's The Dead," and has set original works for Trinity Irish Dance's junior company, the Nassau Dance Theatre, and the Mise Eire Irish Dancers in New York. Carr also created choreography for Hudson Stage Company's production of "Stones in His Pockets" and Lite Theater Company's production of "King Stag," and has coached actors for performances at The Producers Club in New York.

Seating for "Darrah Carr Irish Dance Extravaganza" is by reservation; tickets, $18 general admission, $15 seniors, $5 for MU students with I.D., can be purchased online at ArtsMU.com or by calling the Ticket Office at Millersville University, 871-7600, or the Ware Center, 871-7018.
