Terry Schechter, the well-known Miami-based arts advocate has joined Miami City Ballet (MCB) as the organization's Director of Community Outreach and Special Projects - a position created by Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez.

Building strong community relationships and broadening the company's audience base is a top priority. "Ms. Schechter has a vast reserve of industry connections and an evident dedication to making the arts a vital part of the community. I am certain her experience will only help to further bolster the company's relationship within all South Florida communities as well as help us to engage talented area artists in collaborative and innovative ways," says Ms. Lopez.

At MCB Ms. Schechter will work to implement community-based outreach programs, develop educational programs to engage a wider community, serve as a liaison between the company and outside arts organizations and artists from other disciplines, and enhance MCB School's visibility in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.

"Lourdes has a wonderful and purposeful vision for Miami City Ballet and it involves appealing to new communities and audiences who may otherwise not be exposed to dance as well as collaborating with artists from all walks of life. I look forward to working with everyone at MCB in creating meaningful programs that will expand the company's reach."

Ms. Schechter is the Executive Director of the Miami Art Museums Alliance (MAMA) -- a post she will continue to hold. She served as President of Funding Arts Network (FAN) for three consecutive 2-year terms and has been a member for nearly 15 years. She is a member of the board of trustees at Perez Art Museum Miami, board member at Brickell Avenue Literary Society, and an advisory board member at Miami Theater Center.
