Students of Los Angeles Magazine's "LA's Best Children's Ballet School 2011" will dance seven performances of The Nutcracker at The Luckman Theatre on December 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2013. They will be joined by stars Maria Kochetkova, from San Francisco Ballet, and Joaquin Deluz, from New York City Ballet, for two special gala performances. Former Kirov ballet star Marat Daukayev dances the role of Drosselmeyer in all performances. The Marat Daukayev Ballet's production features dancers whose technique and artistry are truly exquisite, including a robust group of male dancers who flock to the school to train with a ballet master who, after an illustrious 20-year career, coached the next generation of Kirov stars.

This traditional Russian production has astonished in-the-know audiences since 2001. One spectator, unrelated to any performers, enthused: "My hands are sore from clapping, my face is sore from smiling. I never knew children could dance with such a high level of technique. Tchaikovsky is smiling down from heaven." The retelling of the holiday story is as magical for adults as it is for children.

Performances are held at The Luckman Theatre on the campus of Cal State Los Angeles, 5151 State University Drive, 5 miles east of downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, December 7 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm, Sunday, December 8 at 11:30am and 4:30pm, and December 14 at 2:00pm. Tickets are $34 for reserved seating. Gala performances are on Saturday, December 14 at 7:00pm and Sunday, December 15 at 2:00pm. Tickets for gala performances are $40 for reserved seating. Tickets go on sale October 19, 2013 and can be purchased by visiting www.maratdaukayev.org.
